Nice old rig

looks very nice and a reasonable price :)

only downside is I bet it is a bit of a dog to drive though? I suppose it would be possible to add a turbo and change the gearing (maybe add power steering as well?)

If you're tempted to add a turbocharger I'd say this is the wrong van for you.
Power steering may be worthwhile. The main thing would be to look out for
leakage at 30 year old sealant joints. Those vans were exterior aluminium clad,
on a soft timber framed stapled structure lined internally with ply wallboard.
Just like many of that era including the Autotrails. They loosen up and flex a fair bit,
prone to leak. I knew a couple of long term owners waaaay back.
