Pilote Cityvan

I watched the program "Million Pound Motorhomes" from last week (enjoyable entertainment I find :) ) and one person featured had a rather odd looking (to my eyes) Motorhome.
It was the Pilote Cityvan on a Ducato chassis, and I thought it had the front look of a Bluebird Tucana minibus conversion or one of those delivery "Step Vans" you see in the US (but without the sliding drivers door). It has the same lights and lower front end as the standard Ducato, but the windscreen is very upright and "A-Class"ish and there . It seems essentially like an A-Class body but narrower so just about the same width as the regular cab (looks like maybe slightly wider as slim infills between lights and bonnet?)
And inside there is the classic A-Class style drop-down bed over the cab seats - but .... to use it, there is a pull-out section to make it longer, as you sleep North-South rather than East-West in it (unless you are short enough of course ;) ).

Anyone got/had one of these? Just curious as it seems to fall between two stools in terms of having probably the expense of the A-Class style but without the benefit of a bigger cab area? given the narrower width and the "Cityvan" name, I can see the type of environment it is aimed at, but enough benefit over a 'normal' camper to be worthwhile?
(Wondering if there is a Minibus conversion of the Ducato this is actually based on or parts shared with?)

I came across this from Chausson, although I have not been able to see one in person, even when in France for a month in June. No dealer had one in stock. The Chausson website is pretty poor too, but the idea appealed to me.

I looked at a used one of these last year drove all the way to Scotland just to view it and loved it but out of the range of what we were willing to spend the front outside looked slightly different as I remember it.

We like that program too, thought it was a ex-library bus or ambulance at first, Wingamm use a similar n/s bed but no pull out.

I can certainly see some appeal in it, but I am just not sure of that front :) (I mentioned the Blackbird Tucana? Sorry to anyone who has one, but that is one ugly ****** . The Pilote is nowhere close to that, but treading the path .... )

One thing that would concern me with a custom front is the availability of a Windscreen. Panel Vans and coach-builts are unlikely to ever have a long-term supply issue, and screens for popular A-Classes will be expensive but available. A screen for what looks like a pretty niche design like that CityVan could be a problem down the line? I think I heard of someone with an unusual van being unable to get a replacement screen and it ended up being an insurance write-off due to that?

I saw the same MH last year at Kingsbarns, smart looking vehicle when viewed in the flesh.

Always thought the Bluebird, now the Mellor Tucana would be a great base for a MH. Although a fair bit longer than the Cityvan.

Did used to wonder if it was wise to take a VW Transporter up to 4 tonne or 4.1 tonne whatever it is, but they've been around long enough so clearly the Transporters are well up for it. Shame they don't do a shorter one, or perhaps they do? Don't think I've ever seen one though.

Shame they don't do a less ugly one! I guess if you are on the inside it is less important but they really are pig-ugly

I just watched the video on the Youtube link and when you see the dash (which is standard), you can see how much extra width has been added by the insert panels between the dash ends and the vehicle side. It is more than I thought actually (externally I was more going by the front wheels and the arches, which look very little different to the standard Ducato - unlike the Tucana mentioned earlier, where the wheels have disappeared!). That extra width would be very useful.
Still not sure about the appearance, but it's growing on me :)

I worked for a chap who told me when buying a car its the price you pay, not the colour as when driving only others see it, he was right.

there are certain things that cannot be forgotten and are a bridge too far ;)
