Such a shame the bean counters have made it impossible to make such cars nowadays.

The Citroën DS

The Citroën SM

The Citroën XM

Ahead of their time for sure, the ride was so smooth, power brakes and steering from the same pressure pump, we had 3 Citroens over the years, a CX estate, an XM estate and a ZX hatch back.

A friend gave me his DS21 because it was scraped down the N/S, I went to see him in it a few days later with it looking immaculate, he didn't know that the panels are bolt on and I managed to buy the the same colour, a beautiful car to drive although the first time you touch the brake pedal your heart misses a beat or two 😂
We towed a caravan to the South of France with it, spent the first night in a lay-by and lowered the rear legs of the caravan to steady it for the night, the next morning we set of and could hear a noise so pulled up and had a look, found long gouges in the tarmac all the way back to the lay-by, the suspension had lifted and dug them in, fortunately we managed to get away before anyone came by, still feel guilty but it is also one of those memories that you enjoy

Come the lotto win the DS I think would be on the list, a Renault 16 would be there too.

My GF at the time was only in the mood in that car, mainly I think as the seats turned into a properly flat bed soft as anything, I eventually got rid of her but kept the car for a few more years.

We had a Xantia for a while but it just kept breaking down with different electrical problems so we PXd it for Jaag but it was a nice car when it was running.

I remember working on them with the power suspenders Lol, sorry but not my cup of tea, mate had one and thought it the bogs dollocks, to each their own.

Yes they did it under licence.

The only "traditional" Citroen I have had was a BX 19TZS that I chose as a company car in 1990. I thought the way you could adjust the suspension up and down was quite funky.
However, after 3 years the lease was up and I bought myself a Peugeot 405 1.9 GTX (so the same mechanical package, but with conventional suspension) and the 405 was so much nicer to drive even though it was actually a slightly older car. That did make me wonder why the Citroen suspension was so raved about?
I loved the look of the Xantia though. The preferred Company Car a bit later for the youngsters became the Citroen ZX Volcane when that came out as it was a bit of a pocket rocket and in the standard price range.

I did like the Citroen DS5 I bought in 2014. Very stylish and ran it for just over 3 years but px'ed for a Vauxhall Corsa as unusual noises seemed to be starting and didn't want to be stuck with expensive repairs, especially from the Robotic gearbox

Another car I would have had if I'd had the dosh was the Saab 900turbo, I took one for a test drive with 100k on it, I bowed out for the sake of my licence.

Now you are talking cars, mind you an old chum worked in a saab skoda dealership 30 odd years back and said they had more saabs back for warrenty work than the old rear engine sodas.

I couldn't possibly comment on this family forum ;) ;)
