Think they are compulsory now you can be done even if it’s on upside down and it now must have reflectors in the corners. Well that’s what I was told so better with it on anyway
A diagonally striped rear marker board is a legal requirement for both Italy and Spain.
They are the same size but the stripes are configured in a slightly different way; the centre line of the red stripe on the Italian board is where the two colours meet on the Spanish one.
The Italian board does not have to be mounted on aluminium. The ‘code’ says ‘usually made of metal sheet’. See http://www.aci.it/?id=762
The Italian code does not specify which way the stripes should slope nor does the Spanish Decree.
Both boards contravene the requirements of the UK legislation as the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 say that a white reflective light must not be shown to the rear.
