Retirement with 2020 and COVID vision

Managed a very peaceful night on an aire in Lacaplle Viescamp.

Perfect location by the lake but imperfect weather so onward to Oradour Sur Glane.

What a sad story. I’ll not put details on here but for the curious.

Remains of the church bell.

Stayed on the aire in the new town.

What a sad place..
Broke our hearts.
Even after 75 years, we should remember what damage politicians can do, in the name of keeping in power.
The guys who herded the women and kids into the church.. And after...Thought they were doing the right thing.
We should never forget..
But today's young folk will never hear about that sort of thing, and it wouldn't interest them ,if they did.

We visited Oradour last year, a very sad visit.

Is that Morelo Palace lurking at the back of the Aire ?

Ever northward we had a quiet night at Oissel. Had to stay at side of the road as the 2 CC spots on the aire were taken by full timers hooked up to free leccy. Their need is greater than ours.
Then onward for lunch at Wimereux.

Great place for a stop. Managed to get the last of the French sunshine. Pity they don’t have an aire.

But they have a chocolate shop.

And a prom that could be dangerous at high tide. She’s just like a cork when water is about.
Final night tonight then tunnel in the morning.
Will post up the 92 day mileage when we land.

Final night outside the military museum at Audinghen.

Then on to the tunnel but time for a quick play with the temperature checker.

It told Shirl she was hot, but I already knew that.
Final mileage for 92 days was 6361 miles.
Two surprises when we got home.
1. A Portugese toll road fine from our trip back in March. €7 plus €20 admin (ow much).

Thank you also for keeping us posted on your adventures , we are soooo jealous , lets hope we can put this virus to bed soon and get on with our own adventures . Take care Steve and Shirl and thanks again (y)

Thank you for posting such an interesting journey, and also for the humour. The photos were excellent.

I'm going to pinch some of the places you travelled through for my next trip that way.

You are very welcome. We cheated a bit in Portugal by picking PaulJennys’ brain. Keep your eye on RoaminRog for more places of interest.
A bit of driving information Paul passed on was the new 2 lane roundabout approach method introduced this year in Portugal. I wasn’t aware of this.
When approaching a roundabout use the left lane for straight ahead. If you don’t other drivers will assume you are turning right and cut you up or get angry.
HGVs already indicate left for straight ahead in most countries to prevent undercut.

Using left lane for straight ahead? Does that mean, once you’ve passed the exit you don’t want, you ease over into the right lane?
I think that makes sense.👐

That's interesting, I'm used to the French going all the way around in the outside lane of a roundabout to turn left !
