Has anyone tried to return a french total propane bottle and succeeded in getting their deposit back ? We still have the original paper work.

No but how much was the deposit Intermarche only charge 1€ and now have self service points at their locations

August 2013 we paid 60.35 Euros (it was an emergency situation and no time for shopping around) for the bottle and gas. From the paper work it appears that the hire charge is 25euros.

However I cannot tell if this value drops over time (like calor do.)

We are returning to France soon and no longer need the cylinder so I am trying to establish if it is worth returning to Total.

Just found that Totalgaz has been bought by Finagaz. This isn't going to be straight forward.

I can see a future heavy duty wood burner project coming !

Depends where you got the bottle and what their policy is. I got a 13kg propane bottle from Carrefour last year. Deposit was €5 and I was told I would get that back when I returned the bottle.
It should be clear on your paperwork but it looks like as you paid a hire charge of €25 you should get that back. Remember, France isn’t RIP off Britain!
