Router Vs signal booster

From loads of reading, it appears most people opt for mifi but a signal booster doesn't require a SIM card. Both can be had for around £200 or less. Surely the signal booster is less hassle without the worry of Sims and data usage. I already have quite a large data allowance on my phone.

I bought a signal booster but the legal level of boost for a mobile unit is very low. It was not very successful and the kit now lives in a bag at home. If it is not set up properly it will cause signal feedback which not only stops it working but blocks out the signal for other users in the area. I did get it to work but only after acquiring a YAGI aerial which took ages to get properly orientated. Lots of sellers claim that their unit is OFCOM approved but you need to check the official OFCOM Approval list because some sellers tell porkies.

My conclusion is that my booster was a lot of hassle and not very successful.

Not sure where you got your prices. I recently acquired a MiFi unit from Amazon.
A good quality 4G MiFi unit can be had for the low £30s.
A 5G MiFi unit (from the same manufacturer) can be had for around £160.
If you do want 5G, be very wary of the 4G/5G MiFi units that are advertised at low prices; they turn out to be 4G mobile with 5GHz Wi-Fi.

Assuming you are happy with it, can you tell me the make or do you have a link? What SIM are you using?

This is what I purchased: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08CZYM51X
I'm very happy with it. I'm using it with a Réglo Mobile SIM.
In the UK (and in the past in France with UK SIMs), I use a Teltonika RUT955, but last time that I tried using a Réglo Mobile SIM in the RUT955, the SIM stopped working after a short time and, as the T&Cs potentially prohibited use in the RUT955, I put the SIM into an old phone to get it reactivated. That old phone is no longer functional, so I decided to invest in the MiFi unit for use with the Réglo Mobile SIM, having heard that others had had no issue with such a configuration. I did briefly test the ZTE MF920 on receipt with a UK SIM, either RWG (EE network) or Smarty, I forget which. If I had not already had the RUT955 with its roof antenna, I would probably have paid the extra for a 5G unit for futureproofing.

Thanks for that. I shall explore the names you have quoted. I may yet just see how my mobile performs as a hotspot as I already have 60gb on it.
