Satnavs

Hettie Camper

I am needing a new satnav but am going round in circles wondering which one to purchase. I need a biggish screen and to be able to input my camper van dimensions along with lifetime updates. I am hopeless with technology so do not need it to be too whizzy, unless someone advises me otherwise. I may be opening a can of worms asking but what would you recommend please?

I’ve read that lots of people have solved this , dimensions etc, by buying a satnav suitable for lorry drivers. eBay and Amazon have them from £70 upwards. They are not Garmin or TomTom.

This is the one I have and it works fine for us Aguri

We have used Garmin sat nav for many years traveling all over Europe and found them very good, lots of useful information on them when you get it shops , garages, camp sites , hospitals etc. One thing to remember that often ( not all ) the lorry ones keep you on the motorways and you miss the best parts of the country you are traveling in.

Watch out for how “lifetime” is defined. I think “lifetime” often depends on how long they decide to support the device and electronic device lifetimes seem to be getting shorter and shorter, even though the devices are still working fine.

i have a tom tom go 520 it lets you put your dimensions in we use the "scenic" route option on ours
scenic = eco but eco it is not.
on our way to the end of a bit of land near falmouth it directed us down a small road, we screeched to a halt as we came to a small tunnel saw it was 6ft 6 inches wide so thru we went lost the tv aerial as we popped out the other end gonna lie and make the dimensions a bit bigger

when you run out of updates after 5 years do a reset and it starts again my other tom tom ran out just as we bought the new one and I complained to tom tom via email and got an email back telling me what to do other one is a go 500 i have to pay for speed cameras
