Sealant remover

I had to fit a new sink seal in the vans kitchen and Liz has managed to pull most of it out, but having tried to coax it out and off the old seal I have given up, binned the seal and bought a new one from Seals Direct.

Does anyone know of a sealant remover that is quick and easy to use? there are plenty on Google but I've no idea which would be best on wood/ply.

The sealant manufacturer should be able suggest a solvent. Failing that knowing the product would help.

I just used a generic cheap clear one from Screwfix, I think I binned it.

If it was silicone, use a new Stanley knife blade without cutting the worktop. The fine amount left behind will lift with some petrol on a clean cloth.

I tried the knife but it just moved out of the way and we don't have any petrol.

Use a sharpe wood chisel with a side to side movement which will cut into the excess silicone without marking the original surface. Easy peacy providing you have the space. Leaving a small amount of residue will be fine

It's too tight for that, maybe 3mm wide.

There’s stuff called silicone eater leave on and silicon becomes a jell. More important is the tool you use to take it off I find a plastic card like an old credit card or one of them store loyalty cards great for scraping it off.

Goo Gone is useful for removing small traces, but specifically for Silicon and some PU type sealants this from HG works extremely well.
I work on lots of ex Ambulances and cleaning up the plastics after removing cabinets is a regular chore
