Probably a question done to death but I have just got a Netgear Nighthawk mobile router and am trying to sort out a sim to use in it whilst touring the EU?
After hours trawling through the various plans online I am still no where near a decision as to a UK data sim or go for a data sim in the EU?
Any experience / advice greatly received.

Are you looking for a UK contract?
How many Gb will you need? Streaming TV, or just a bit of browsing and social media?
Where are you going? Local SIMs may not allow roaming.

We have the same problem. Our O2 data sim does not cover outside the UK, so need a card that will not only work in a router, but in France too. We use very little compared to most. No TV, so no streaming. Just web sites and a small amour of Web Cam to the kids and music. We do use the Google app for some navigation, but that is covered by the phone.

Not much for UK, mainly Europe (Spain/Portugal). Some TV streaming so around 25/30gb?

I've been looking and unless you want to pay £75 per month for popit fie 100Gb.
The most I've found is 30Gb a month seems to be largest, so I've opted for ID mobile, which is round £10 month depending on the deal when you buy it and it's on Three network, which uses different networks abroad to roam. I've use mine in France and a friend has used ID in Portugal with no problems.
It seems that the sims on the Vodaphone net work don't always fully roam when abroad, this means they only use Vodaphone of the country or in France SFR.
Best of luck.

there is an O2 offer currently i think £25 unlimited here and 50gb EU roaming

Cannot help with the sim for abroad as I don’t venture over the water but like you I bought a Netgear nighthawk and use a an EE sim in the UK.
One of the best buys I’ve ever made, excellent down and upload speeds using the EE sim. To date never not had reception even up on Skye and around Glen Coe. It’s been excellent for my Firestick allowing me to watch all my Sky channels etc.

You might like to look at the SPUSU Mobile thread I started.
Like you, my needs are modest, but I use mobile WiFi year round, and I only get a signal from EE, so my choice is limited.
I've gone with RWG somewhat reluctantly, and won't know how good that choice will be until we're in Spain and Portugal this winter, but it's fine here. £10 a month for 20Gb. They've assured me it's all usable in the EU for 90 days at a time.

I always buy a SIM in Spain, never bother with France as I usually only drive through to get to Spain and my O2UK allows 25GB so that's fine, in Spain I buy a Movistar (120GB for 20.00 euros) or Orange (100GB for 20.00 euros) Movistar have the best signal over Orange but only allow 12GB roaming in Portugal, Orange is 15GB roaming both SIMs last 28 days.

Del

Don’t you need a Spanish address to get the Movistar SIM?
