Hi we last went to France using the tunnel in 2017. This time we are going by ferry Dover to Calais.
We have an early ferry so would like to be ideally in Dover or very close. We would be grateful of advice or recommendations for a basic overnight stopover.
Thank you.

Always stay in Maison Dieu car park . Town centre . 10 minutes from ferry . Free from 6-8.30(?) , best to check sign

It's some years since we last stayed there, but Canterbury Park & Ride was where we stayed before the ferry. (Circa £10/night.)

16 miles from the P&R to the ferry port.

There was an adjacent pub called The Old Gate Inn.

Marine Parade is a park up, last year it cost £11. About 1k from the port. I believe Maison Dieu car park is also chargeable at the same rate now. We had no problems and no anxiety about getting there on time. Last time we stopped in Canterbury, we were held up by a crash for an hour. Missed our boarding.

Maison Dieu , earlier this year , was free in the evening . Normal parking charges daytime .
Has this changed ?
