Sump Plug Torque Setting ?

I replaced my sump pan last year due to the old one being as rusty as hell.

The new sump pan and composite gasket are great and a perfect fit and came with a sump plug already fitted and torqued and it had what looked like thread lock on it.

However, the sump plug is different to the original one fitted from new. The new one is a tapered thread were as the original was a flange plug with copper washer.

Does anyone know what the torque setting should be on this tapered thread sump plug ?

I`ve contacted the supplier who just says to nip it up tight but you have to be careful with these tapered threads so as not to damage them.

i would put a bit of ptfe tape round it and nip it up and add a touch

What is the make and model of the base vehicle eg Fiat, Peugeot/Citroen, Mercedes, Ford, etc. Once you know that go to the nearest Garage selling them and ask the service department for the correct torque setting.

Peugeot replied that they don`t use that type of sump plug.
