Sweden & Norway 2019

We are not keen on long tunnels.
Difficult to avoid some (eg E16 Gudvangen Flam Laerdal)
North of Fauske some darkish tunnels

Our pet hate is long ferries. Thus we are OK with Puttgarden-Rodby (<1hr)
The Hirtsals Kristiansand is just OK for us..
Planning PLAN A Puttgarden-Rodby and Oresund bridge both ways
2 alternatives (for us)
Either Plan B Kristiansand to Hirtsals on way home (2hrs)
Or Plan C Oresund and t'other bridge again on way home but a bit of a long way round

Fact I once read, think Norway maybe and Sweden, has 60,000 miles of coastline add tunnels and bridge/viaducts and this is 100,000!!!!
Don’t know if this is fact!!!

I travelled the length and breadth by motorbike a few years ago. It is truly a wonderful place. If going for that length of time you simply must go to the Lofoton Islands. Infact evry body should, before they die should visit the Lofoton's. Simply the most jaw achingly beautiful place I have ever been.

When coastlines are measured by the single meter, or less, the result is vastly more than the normal guide distances.
Oh don’t go down that route, the more finely you measure the longer it gets, eventually getting to be infinitely long and infinitely impossible to measure!

From Spain to Norway on a bike called reggie, or something similar was a good read if you can find it!!

Update........... minor changes
1 Likely to cross to Calais 18th April

2 Route to Malmo change
We will use both bridges as it is cheaper and more convenient.
Details to follow

Don’t they have Lidl’s/Aldi then?
Here's the LIDL story regarding Norwayhttps://distrita.com/lidl-came-to-norway-in-2004-lost-in-2008/ When last we visited Norway (I must confess it was on a cruise to hunt the Northern Lights and yes we did see them!) we used the REMA 1000 stores and found them very competitive to other stores in the towns, a bit like Aldi and Lidl in UK but at Norwegian prices - fe**in expensive! We heard from other cruise passengers that fresh food is best bought/bartered in local farms.

Cruised by the Lofoton islands in March 2018 - an awe inspiring site and no mistake!

We’re also leaving mid June for 3 months going across to Dunkirk then up to Denmark for ferry from Hirtshals to Larvik. We plan to do west coast of Norway via Lofoten Islands up to North Cape then returning south through Finland to Turku to get ferry to Sweden then back to Denmark before heading home.
No return ferry to UK booked.....we’ll sort that out when we see where we end up!!
Every day will be a new adventure!

Another update...
Following posts on WC it is possible to avoid Hamburg by taking the short Ferry from Wischhafen to GluckStadt.
This crosses to near Itzehoe where there is a stellplatz and others nearby. It also saves a few miles and also more fuel if stuck in traffic round Hamburg (very likely)

Trip delayed slightly by the need to get Specs replaced free by Specsavers.
The coating on one lens was breaking up so they agreed to replace FOC.
Collect on Friday 17th May so straight to Canterbury for 2 nights then Calais

We went a similar route (twice) a couple of years ago. That ferry journey from near Stockholm to Turku is a stunningly beatiful trip on a sunny day. No one has mentioned the Atlantic Road. Definately not to be missed. You can overnight anywhere if you are more than 100 metres from a house, on a beach, on a glacier, riverbank etc. If you are in Lofoten go whale watching in Vesterålen. See Sperm whales close up and remember it for the rest of your life!
When we went you could get a list of the Restplatz from the Motorway Services on the Bridge. Not a lot of waste disposal points and no gas filling places in Sweden and in Finland all the gas bottles are left hand thread and not compatable with the rest of Europe

Thanks for that (Pete Westy)
We have re-fillable LPG...There seem to be enough stations in the South Central but nnly at Pitea in the North.
We can go one month so one fillup in Central Sweden will do us
Norway seems OK except in the very north (only Alta)
We plan to go via Malmo & Stockholm to Kiruna Then to Narvik.
We went to Nordkapp in 2016 and Lofoten.. Plan coastal routes where possible.

Lpg in narvik is only Tuesday to Friday it’s on an industrial area near the docks, and the pump in pitea is a pain in the ass very difficult to latch on and doesn’t show how much on the pump you have to go in to make sure it’s working ok, if anybody finds lpg in Finland can you update us as we are going feb/ mar next year and will need gas whilst there, so far we have an external bbq point and are looking at buying an external gas bottle and regulator

Two years ago and things may have changed but we never found a LPG filling point in Sweden or Finland. Some of these places listed on internet are only for buses or taxis and are locked up in compounds. We never saw a filling station with a LPG pump
I think that pump in Pitea is only meant for buses and taxis we weren't able to get a decent fill. That is correct about Narvik but we found lots of places to fill up in Norway.
(andyjanet) Note that thing about left-hand threads. Bottles look the same but only fit a Finish regulator

Thanks we will have two months in Finland so will buy a Finnish bottle and regulator to work alongside our 100 ltr tank

All helpful
Thanks to both for their latest posts re LPG

PS the outlet in ALTA was MT and we had to go away and come back 3 or 4 days later
Steinker south of Tromso and Kongsberg were good. Pitea was OK (just)
