Left home last Monday for a trip down south. On the way out I posted my D2 application form and D4 medical form for a new driving licence with C1 rights as I have a 4.2 ton van and am 70 in a few weeks. Arrived home today to find a pile of mail on the mat, including my new driving licence valid for 3 years and with all the necessary categories on it. So less than 6 days for a DVLA to process the application and issue a new licence. Thankyou DVLA.

Sometimes they can be good, but I had a nightmare with them trying to remove a motorcaravan status that they were happy to apply at one point. Sorted now, even the dvla know not to argue with me lol.

How many of us remember standing in a long cold queue, waiting to be called forward to pick up road tax, only to find the cheque was incorrect because they'd bunged the price up.

Now I can check tax and insurance at the click of a button, and everyone else's too.

The DVLA have done a fantastic job of entering the 21st Century.

It does appear the .gov websites are getting less arcane than previously. If this continues I should be able to do my 70+ licence by telepathy in a little over three years time.

I have had my van fitted with dual fuel (LPG), when I sent the V5 and certificate to the DVLA I also pointed out the taxation class (PLG) was incorrect as the GVWR is and has always been 3955KG, and I also enclosed a copy of specification information panel showing this, they changed the V5 to Bi fuel but still left the taxation class as PLG....
