Suggestions? Wave to my family as you drive past ;)

We’re doing a few weeks in the Netherlands soon, after doing the Edinburgh Fringe. So we’ll be looking for very very quiet places to stay for a lot of r & r!! Please tell us if you find any nice quiet places (preferably not campsites). Enjoy your trip and maybe we’ll bump into you both somewhere over there.

Hi Tony & Sue
As you may have noticed we almost never use campsites and prefer the quieter spots...will put on new page on our blog where we stay..

Last year on the way from Ijmuiden (Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry) to Germany we spent a couple of nights on an aire listed on Campercontact in Hoorn, north of Amsterdam. I chose it because I’m a fanatic about boats and this was on a marina. Hoorn is a great little town and although the aire isn’t special we liked the town so much that we stayed a bit longer than planned.

Useful.
We are thinking of going to northern Netherlands eg Harlingen and goind on the big dyke to Den Oever which will take us very near Hoorn.

Hi, if your in “pied piper” country, Hamelin, then try and be in the town square, by the “Rathaus” (town hall) on the hour, as on the wall of the Rathaus you’ll see two large copper doors, these open on the hour and the story of the pied piper unfolds, well worth the visit, there are several rows of seats for you to relax, enjoy ?

In April we stayed at https://www.landhoeve.com/, a small CL style site, a quiet level field but with EHC, also donkeys, ducks, canal, and the River Lek just over the (quiet) road. Easy cycle to the World Heritage site at Kinderdijk. Very easy going owner.

Thanks very much for this recommendation!! Sue and I decided to head here today as, although we don’t normally do sites, even small ones, the weather was so good that we felt the urge for spreading our belongings out a bit and having a BBQ - not good practice on aires. What a fantastic find. We love it and have already booked in for another night. Plan on cycling to Kinderdijk tomorrow taking advantage of the fantastic weather.
Thanks again
Tony

2 Nights near Sneek at a very nice boatyard
Today to near Hoorn https://goo.gl/maps/dtnVExxcJwSJ2W3D7
Yes a camp-site! but sensibly priced
Edam next (cheese made backwards?)

PS 1 We have found the Dutch very helpful and friendly and many of them speak English very well

PS 2 The nights are drawing in a bit and at 52/53 deg north EHU is handy

We’re thinking of heading up somewhere near Hindeloopen in a few days. Sneed is nearby so would you recommend it? Incidentally landed up on a fantastic little CL type place on an apple farm near Arnhem today (Landwinkel de Woerdt, Ressen). We can highly recommend it - plenty of walking / cycling around the fruit farms/orchards.
Enjoy your travels

On the way back try Sas van gent, officially only 2 motor home places but there must be 100 vans here now it's just like a campsite right on the canal with loads of space and shade between trees absolutely gorgeous and free, the only thing is no services so make sure your cassette is empty, do not know how long it will last as can imagine they may have trouble with waste being dumped although have not seen any evidence.

After Rovers Camping. We visited Edam and Volkendam then round Amsterdam to Zevenhoven for 1 night then Gouda.
Gouda is nice and an excellent aire....2 nights

Our route south was different in that we headed south aiming for Oosteind but we continued to Grobbendonk in Belgium

We know and like Grobbendonk so 2 nights
Today 31st August heading to SasvanGent (Netherlands again.
Motorhome would not start clearly not a fuel problem so Breakdown
We were on a leisurely start anyway and Mr Breakdown arrives at 12:30.
He checks all the obvious and is clearly a bit baffled.
I then show him the Tun-it fuel enhancer unit and we agree to bypass it a simple matter of unplugging the 2 Engine management leads from it and reconnecting them directly (When connected it is like a T junction)
Hey presto all is well.
Thus we do water etc at grobbendonk and head for Sas van Gent
Antwerp busy but we kept moving
Another delay for 2 into 1 lanes on the E34
Potentially a low bridge (3metres)
Very very tricky to get to Sas van Gent with one or 2 road dead ends and new roads not on Satnav
Anyway got here ok and as suggested by others a lovely spot..maybe 2 nights here !

We’re still heading northwards! 1 night in Urk, great very busy and noisy. Then several days taking nothing but back roads and stopping at some great stopovers to arrive somewhere north of Harlingen on the Waddenzee. Were planning only 1 night here but scenery so good, weather so great and restaurant so good that I reckon another night is called for. A couple of days ago we cycled to Hinderloopen and spent the day there - a village not to be missed.’
