What do you think about this one ?

eTH = Electric Transformer House

Any idea of the price?

I don't think the manufacturer has decided how much it's going to be. I haven't been able to reach anybody at this company.

Thanks

And how is your design/prototype going?

The patent application process is going well. The Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) issued their International Preliminary Report on Patentability 2 months ago and they accepted 17 out of 20 claims as being new and inventive so hopefully I can leave most of the things the way they are. I'm only trying to patent the bathroom design because it would cost more money to try to patent other things too.

I still haven't found a builder for my prototype. I have made my designs available for others to use and will also offer them to this company as alternatives to their Electric Transformer House.

They are actually located in Irvine about 70 miles from me so I could drive up there if I cannot reach them by phone.

We may one day end up with Transformer houses as well as Tardis motorhomes.

The Iron Man's mansion in Malibu is also nearby so I should go to see Tony Stark too.

I've been wondering what's the best way to provide a bed for two people to sleep when this motorhome is in its fully retracted configuration or drive mode. Some people may want to go to bed or just take a nap sometimes without having to extend the rear bedroom or the living room by 7 or 8 feet.

It may be possible to add a drop-down bed above the front seats as done in other class-A motorhomes but judging from the drawings on the company's website there doesn't seem to be enough room for a double bed to be installed in this area.

Another alternative is to make the storage area on the left side a little smaller and add a removable seat rearward of the existing bench to form an L-shape sofa which can be converted into a double bed as shown below. The sofa bed in the living room can be folded and stored with one end under this seat when not in use.

The kitchen counter depth can be reduced from about 2.5 feet to about 2 feet to widen the walking space between this temporary bed and the kitchen cabinets.

Should I send this to the manufacturer or Pininfarina and ask them to change their design ?

Good thinking. I think it would work.

Only thing being the market. The sort of people buying this kind of van with impressive slide outs are likely to want to set up on official camping grounds.

It's going to be a fairly expensive vehicle on the luxury side and those people generally don't mind paying for expensive camp sites to match.

The sleeping in unextended mode is more something that wild campers would do. The target market probably won't contemplate that and prefer larger units.

Nevertheless, like a boat builder, you can offer it as an option.

Thanks for the suggestion.

How about adding foldable shelves or a collapsible cupboard that can be folded against the cabinet wall behind the removable seat ?

The owner will be able to easily switch between maximizing storage space like in the original design and having an extra seat with an L-shape sofa that is convertible into a double bed.

Items on the shelves or in the collapsible cupboard can be temporarily moved into a basket placed on the floor somewhere.

That would work well. I don't know the market well for these kind of vehicles but I get the impression that potential owners would like options. Most top end motorhomes and of course boats, offer lots of options. So, if you keep the basic double slide outs the same and work around those, interior tweaks shouldn't affect your major tooling/build costs.

Here is my GIF animation looking from the left side with the sidewall removed.

The first frame shows pretty much the same things as the original design.
The following frames show how we can have an additional seat with an L-shape sofa that is convertible into a double bed.

I've also put this on my website at atardis.com/eth.gif in case the animation doesn't work here for everybody.
I'm still waiting for somebody at Pininfarina to write back to me.
