It's renewal time for our multi trip health in surance. We are with LV and they have put their premium up by £25 which is probably about par for the course. Before I renew I wanted to see if anyone had any recent good experience. I need it for European cover, multi trip and up to 75/90 days per trip.

I'm only looking for places that can do 75/90 day cover in a single trip.

The 75/90 days bit is important so if your doesn't cover that thanks for the thought but it'll be of no use to us.

NB This is health insurance and not foreign travel vehicle in surance.

I'd be interested to know how you separate the health insurance from the travel insurance. We seem to be covered thrice for everything , except health, and when we try to only get health cover which is all we need, we seem to be paying for everything else as well. We have just reluctantly renewed with Nationwide who are charging us an extra £385 for our trip to Spain and Portugal for 76 days.

I've given up trying to get travel insurance £700 per month, mention hormone therapy for cancer and cost go through the roof.
So just had 6 weeks in Australia with out cover and same again in Spain this winter .
Just saved £4200 .

I don’t fully understand why folks are so determined to get travel health insurance , for trips into Europe anyway.
No doubt I’ve got it wrong, but isn’t that why we have the EHIC?
This gives us the same entitlement to health cover in Europe as it does in the UK.
Well it has so far, for me anyway..

Travel further abroad, yup, definitely needed. A heart attack mid flight from Atlanta, scared Nic and I, not having insurance, when the pilot was considering diverting into Chicago, for emergency health cover for me. Bankruptcy ?
Because of the state my body is in, travel out of Europe is a no go.
Without the EHIC, I couldn’t travel. The cost of cover, would be at least half of travel my budget.

Then again, tis your money, spend it as you like
( I remember a member saying, “ Do you know how much hiring a private aircraft to repatriate your body would cost?)

You would be dead. Why would you need repatriation. If that happens to me, throw me in the nearest Crem, and let that be the end of it.

It’s staying cheerful, that keeps me going.

Think it's very dependant on destination, like Del I would be happy in Europe with a GHIC I think it's called now, might be worth checking Del, although I do have cover, no idea what exactly is covered, I don't do small print legalise.
However a venture beyond Europe would definately get me looking for health/travel insurance and if USA, lots of it.

GHIC covers emergencies at the basic level, whereas Health Insurance covers things like non-emergency illness, and consequential costs such as the cost of accommodation [1 month driving ban after heart attack], cost of post-discharge medication until you get home [Spain only allowed 1 month prescription under GHIC in 2020 and 1/2 of that would have been used in my extra accommodation waiting for the driving ban expiry].

I don't regard European Breakdown Cover as a waste if I don't use it; it gives peace of mind. Same applies to Health Cover - it's an important part of the holiday package cost, and something that I would not go without. Final thought - if Health Cover premiums rise as we get older, then logic suggests that the risk of a claim arising increases, so insurance is even more important. My boss in Social Services 28 years ago had a surprisingly accurate Rule of Thumb [social care] health budget formula; Age 65-69 £1 spend; 70-74 £2 spend; 75 & over, £4 spend ...

When your spouse is disabled with some specific health issues then travel insurance covering health emergencies is a must.

Firstly, it's now the GHIC.
Secondly, it doesn't give you the same entitlement to health cover as in the UK; it gives you the same entitlement as would apply to a resident of the relevant European country and, depending on country, may not cover a number of potentially expensive things that would be covered in the UK.
