Travel insurance for people not the motorhome

Just looked it up for Co-op bank... 45 days worldwide...cannot extend. Should have checked before posting! Remember now it was more to cover us when flying to Portugal, Thailand/ New Zealand. Rather than when doing long trip driving to Europe.

For me with Bowel Cancer and all the associated stuff that goes with it for 90 days Europe only, annual cover Saga was the cheapest for a couple, Staysure was way more.

Indeed . No idea where I got 72 days from . To be honest most of my trips are around 6 weeks . Return is never booked but I just seem to come home within that timeframe .
Co-op works out best for my circumstances

Beware not booking a return. The company can say you are outside their terms as you have no proof of length of stay. I always book a flexi return within the limits. This can also apply to breakdown cover. It has nothing to do with when an incident occurs but purely proof of being within the terms.

I'm sure the UK Gov 'Travel to France' website indicates the need for a return ticket to be shown at French Border Control [says he who had booked only a single ticket for his since postponed 25th November sailing ...]

No check made in October for return ticket .
Will check insurance but logically and legally (?) it doesn't sound like a great argument to nullify your insurance .
Would comply if necessary but seems like yet another needless expense

I think that the return ticket stipulation appeared during the recent spate of updates from early December; there have been so many, it is difficult to keep track and the apparent politicalisation of the French Travel Regs, with the wording of the restrictions changing subtly [and almost immediately] to hit UK travellers after Ms Truss announced that Article 16 invocation is a serious option has not helped. Ms Truss has repeated the threat this morning in advance of resumed 'negotiations', so it's difficult to see that the need for a Travel Insurance policy to reach France is likely to feature imminently

Nationwide Flexplus account does "free" annual multi-trip world travel insurance, vehicle rescue, and mobile phone insurance for £13 a month. Supplements payable for age, existing health conditions and trip length up to 6 months, I think. No required monthly deposit. Vehicle rescue is for any vehicle you are in, not necessarily driving. Has always worked for us. This year paid £194 for 2 over 70s, 90 days trip lengths, medical conditions disclosed. Covid risk covered.

I had a heart attack in Spain in January 2020 and the Age Supplement and higher risk premium meant that I could buy separate Travel Insurance and European Breakdown Insurance much cheaper than switching to the Flexplus account. Phone insurance is already covered by the Household Contents policy

As we are planning on resuming touring the Continent from January, I need to organise some travel health insurance.

Could I ask where any of you folks have got yours from if you have toured abroad this year?

I need 60 days per trip multi-trip cover.

Thanks
We used Allclear recently as we have various medical conditions! Not always the cheapest but covers everything including covid. A lot weren't covering covid at all, for example staysure. Also found lots of options on comparison sites.

We can't see past LV. they may not be the cheapest but they were fantastic when we had out motorhome stolen. We have LV travel insurance and once all pre-existing conditions are disclosed they were in fact very competitive. Not had to claim on travel or medical insurance but because they were so good during the distress of losing the Motorhome to scumbags we are acting on the belief that they would be equally supportive in other trying circumstances, .... so they get our business.

When requiring the breakdown cover the first question asked was date of ferry out and date of return ticket. I can see no reason why the same would not apply to health cover. If a maximum period away is stipulated then it is reasonable to confirm that the period is not potentially being exceeded. The problem with insurance is you never know until you need it, then it’s a bit late to find out.

My van insurance covers breakdown cover . Have used breakdown service three times , never bought a return ticket . As I said will need to check my health insurance but return tickets were never mentioned .
Somebody also mentioned Nationwide insurance don't think they still supply that service ?

UK Gov 'Travel to France' website extract:

At French border control, you may need to:
  • Queue in separate lanes from EU, EEA or Swiss citizens.
  • Show proof of where you intend to stay, for example, a booking confirmation or proof of address if visiting your own property (e.g. second home). Further information is detailed below.
  • Show proof of insurance for your trip. Please check the guidance on travel insurancehere.
  • Show a return or onward ticket
  • Prove that you have enough money for the duration of your stay. Further information is detailed below.

Ok just saying that wasn't my experience going to France .
May be mixing companies up but I seem to remember the Nationwide thing being discussed not so long ago ? Not sure if it was available to new customers .
That was why I went with the co-op

Nationwide's breakdown/repatriation service only cover MH's up to 8m in length so no use for us I'm afraid.

My original post said that, as far as I could remember, the return Ticket requirement was a new criterion following the new effective travel ban on journeys to France so it was after your trip in October. My intention was to clarify the Return Ticket requirement for anyone reading the thread later on

CCC insurance always stipulated that you must have return ticket as long as I can remember ( about 2 days). I used Staysure this time and being over 80 it was painful.
