Travel insurance

Today I have been looking into getting some medical / travel insurance, absolutely amazed at the difference in quotes after putting the same information into them all. We are going on a four month run this time, so that cuts a lot out as they only give you 30 days, we are over 70 so that's a few more out, most of the bank ones have similar restrictions so more out. Of the ones left that I could not believe ( Meldrew impression ) the prices they varied from £275 to £660.

So does anyone know of a company that does something simple for people just traveling in a M/H having just medical and repatriation if you are taken ill or die. No need for airport delays, dangerous sports, loss of luggage and any other things that don't affect us just travelling abound Europe.

Please keep us posted. I am 70 in 2018 and have with existing medical conditions and it is tthe insuranceinsurance that limits our long we can go away for. Keep thinking about flying home for a week but seems so much bother.

although she is now expensive to insure.:(

Have you tried "http://www.able2travel.com/" they specialise in preexisting medical issues. I've had heart attacks and I have to inject insulin ever day for my diabetes. Every year I compare all the insurers and every year http://www.able2travel.com/ wins. A few years ago the van was broken into in Belgium and then badly damaged by hail in France. They were as good at giving me money as taking it. Their rules include a 28 day time limit on claims but, because we were touring, they said the clock would start when we got home even though that was another 6 weeks. Good luck

Hi Dave & Mary. I'm with LV (formerly Liverpool Victoria I believe).
You can get quotes online in a few minutes. The standard annual multi-trip policy cover is for 30 (?) day trips but I have the 'Premium' cover which gives cover for 90 day trips. I'm over 70 and am happy with the premium.
I hope this helps.

Colin ???

I use a Caravan & Motorhome Club Multi Trip medical policy. The minimum price is for 31 days per trip and I think goes up to 45 and then 60 days. For longer periods you can opt for a Single Trip policy. I can speak from experience and when my wife fell of her bike and ended up in Agen Hospital with a dislocated shoulder the support I received from the club Duty Officers was brilliant.

We have just taken out travel insurance with Staysure. We did try a few different companies that were supposed to specialise in pre existing conditions and they came out the best. There was a surprising difference between them and some wouldn't insure us at all.As is the norm with all insurances it pays to shop around.

I got my Dad (78) and all his ailments insured with the Motorhome and Caravan Club. The premium was affordable. Elsewhere was not an option. Staysure asking premium was a joke! My Dad has his car and home insured with LV...interested to hear that they do affordable travel insurance.

It's quite remarkable how they vary between different insurance companies,I found the exact opposite.Staysure were the cheapest and the C@MC wouldn't insure us.It must depend on what type of pre existing ailment you have.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone with experience of getting insurance for a pre existing medical condition when flying abroad.
Just a 2 week holiday in the sun.
Hoping it's not awfully expensive.......

Give allclear a go, as in post 8 above, I'd given up trying to get cover elsewhere when I went there. Price depends of course on the condition, but also goes up if USA/Canada covered due to high medical costs there.

Try Able to travel(post 3). I get worldwide annual cover but they also do single trip and geographically restricted products. As som one mentioned US / Canada puts the price up. Parts of the caribean also put the price up because if there is a problem they fly you to US. One of the reasons we originally started going to Cuba is that there is no way Cuba will send you to US , hence low price coverage. Oh and Cuba has excellent health care, it was one of the objectives of the 59 revolution.

I've got free travel insurance with my bank (Nationwide) so long as I pay £750 a month into account, its for Europe for me and mrs, last year added whole world to policy for £40 for a year including a couple of medical conditions. I think other banks do simular offers.

Forgot to say could be a time limit but when I claimed a couple of years ago (Brittany Ferry Strike) they didn't ask how long I'd been in Spain

I've used Payingtoomuch.com a couple of times and been happy with the rates charged. I have a pre existing medical condition which they are happy to exclude from covering but include all other usual cover. Hope this helps you.
