Nat and Les our stalwart wardens who have looked after our touring park www.cornishfarm.com since 2015 are moving on to pastures new and will soon be running a Country Pub and will be welcoming Motorhomer's on their Motorhome Fun CL later in the year. All at Van Bitz wish them well and look forward to a beer in their new pub ;)

That leaves us looking for a couple that fancy running a campsite. Husband & Wife, Wife & Wife, Husband and Husband, so long as your a couple that can live and work together.

The wardens’ duties here are fairly light and it is more a lifestyle than a job. The site is not huge having 50 electric hook up points, 25 of them on gravelled hard standings. The wardens live on site, in their own unit, on their own pitch, which is extra large with ample room for a motorhome/caravan and car. The pitch is adjacent to the office with the availability of a shed behind the office for garden furniture and bits and bobs. The positioning of this pitch also allows the wardens to keep an eye on visitors coming and going. If you are full timing and want a break from constant travel, with a permanent home, somewhere to put some roots, this is the place to do it.

The wardens’ pitch is free of charge, as is electricity up to a reasonable amount. The hours are really cumulous and fluid because, when the site is busy, there is more to do. In effect, it is six days a week for a couple, but the couple do not need to be, or are expected to be available all day every day, although the day off has to be mid week and not at a weekend for obvious reasons.

The office is normally open between 09.00 and 11.00 and re-opens 15:00 to 17:00. When the site is busy, one of them tends to be in or around the office, and when it is quieter there is a door bell on the office that can be switched to buzz in the wardens van, so they don't have to sit watching the clock waiting for someone to turn up. Presently, the wardens clean the shower block (of which we expect very high standards) in the mornings/midday, which seems to suit everyone. Once the daily chores are done, and when the site is quiet, it is more relaxing. It is after all a lifestyle and not a career.

However, the grass needs to be cut regularly and when possible, trimming of the hedges and bushes. Maintaining the areas and edges of the gravelled roads and pitches is always necessary to maintain the pristine standards of this site. We have an array of mechanical devices to make these tasks as easy and pleasurable as possible. We also have a great device that tows along behind the tractor to flatten the gravel and to evenly distribute it.

These tasks are more time consuming in the Summer when things grow more quickly. In the Winter, the weather leaves you with less desire to be outside, but thankfully, once the Autumn dropping of the leaves has been cleared from areas such as the main entrance, there is very little maintenance that needs doing.

During the week, if time away is needed, the main office of Van Bitz can cover, as telephone and computer bookings are duplicated. A simple sign in the window of the campsite office re-directs people away from the "closed" campsite reception.

In short, the work does pay reasonably well and of course there are no overheads to worry about at all. You get to live on a great campsite and within reason, on a daily basis, run the place as if it was your own. The present wardens do not need to refer back to us on day to day decisions.

After a short trial period, they established that they were sensible and responsible enough and able to establish their own rotas for the jobs that needed doing and when they would be done.

Anyone interested, and anyone wanting more information should email a C.V. to lyn@vanbitz.com who will send you further information about the position.

We would rather train the right people with the right attitude and no experience than employ some grumpy buggers who will make our guests miserable when they arrive, irrespective how picture postcard the site looks and how spotless the showers are!

Please don't PM me questions about the position, I am not dealing with it and only know what is written here and it sort of takes you out of the running before you start PM'ing me :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:.

Why is it only for couples?
In the past we have found that it's not a job for just one person. The site is all year round and can be very busy, so would be too much we feel for just one person to handle.
