a bigger question .... does Yahoo still exist! :D

just because you are searching for an old car doesn't mean you have to use an old search engine :)

Is that on a PC/laptop or a tablet?
On my PC I use Edge and new tabs come up with Bing search even though I have set my default to Google, I cannot remove Bing as a search engine but I have removed Yahoo

I cannot set new tabs to search using Google so I get around it by having google.co.uk as my Home page and clicking on Home gives me this

Not ideal but just one more click, just don't tell Trev

I didn't get where I am today by using MS Edge Terry, I'm Google through and through browser and email.

It's just an annoyance and may be okay after a reboot, but I have a lot of open tabs on here an Brave which may or may not restore but too wisky.

I used to use Firefox almost exclusively but recently (since I got my new Laptop) I decided to use MS Edge (firefox had been playing up) and actually I think it is pretty nifty :) I use Chrome for Google related products - so gmail and youtube and probably maps - but switch to Edge for all other stuff on-line.

Update: appears you are sorted? I just hacked into your Google account and got access to your Google Nest camera!!

I didn't like Internet Explorer but I do like Edge (except Bing), I can go on any of my laptops or tablets and all my favourites are already there

Egg zacktlee why I use Chrome, even my Chromebook is happy on it.

To just works like it always has Neil :D :D

Kev,
did you get to the bottom of this? I don't tend to use Chrome much but today I noticed I get the search using yahoo no matter what I set the engine to.
It only happens in chrome and I think will be something that is noted in this article .... https://www.guidingtech.com/fix-google-chrome-search-engine-changing-to-yahoo/
On my pc, I noticed when hitting the return key after typing in a search, it first went to "search-great.com" and then searched for the word using yahoo. This is in fact a virus - https://malwaretips.com/blogs/search-great-com/
See if you spot that and post back ....

Still the same, out now so will look tomorrow.

be interesting to know.

This malware is not picked up by the usual programs :(
Malwarebytes ... all good! installed Norton .... No problems! installed Avast... no problems ...
The only one to have found it is SpyHunter - and that costs £70 every 3 months!
Uninstalling Chrome entirely including all the files seems to have done the trick, at least for now. There is one specific file that gets infested - I have deleted it but it still comes back with the dodgy links in so not sure what is driving that?

OK I did as instructed when I did the OP but it changed nothing.

I also tried to edit the Yahoo one and got this despite me having a bookmark already for Google and it working fine and I just C&Cd it.

So I am no further forward.

I have just run Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner, deleted any programs over the last few months and it is still not right.

so when you type in anything into the browser url bar, does it first go somewhere else (like search-great.com) fleetingly before then coming up with search results from Yaahoo? did you check that?

here is something to check ... what usually happens when you open a new tab? The default behaviour is to open a new google search window if google is set as your search engine. change the engine to Bing and see what happens when youopen a new tab. change it to duckduckgo and open a new window. do you get a bing windows and a duckduckgo window? and if you do a search in one of those, is it a bing search and a duckduckgo search?
I've cleaned my systems now so I don't get this search hijacking anymore so can't screenshot where it was taken over, but it was settings tucked away.
In Edge, I did a "reset" in the settings window to clean all the search engine entries that had been altered to go to search-great; In Chrome, I actually uninstalled the browser fully and then reinstalled, but that has "reset settings" in settings also which would be worth doing. (Chrome and Microsoft Edge are based on the same browser core and their settings and options are very similar).
