Many moons ago a group of us would buy houses at auction and improve or convert to flats etc we even bought one with a 104 year old sitting tennant who was an amazing lady to talk to! I bought a dilapidated Oast House which ending up being a slightly longer term investment than planned thanks to Norman Lamont, if anyone remembers him and the crazy interest rates at the time!
Paul, one of our group bought this house in Maidstone Kent from his share of the proceeds, it had been semi derelict for some years and had been listed to prevent demolition and further development.
The listing protected a spiral staircase but also included some silly features like plastic gutters and crappy magnet southern windows which took a while to sort out
We worked on it for a few months primarily to get the upper two floors habitable one of its amazing features were the fish scale slates on the roof.
Iirc Paul managed to get a roofing company do a huge amount of structural repairs to the canterlevered timber frame for an amazing price in exchange for using it in their advertising.
I remember stacking cleaning and storing a lot of those slates!
Hopefully this link works it has become a very unique home now and if you zoom in the slates are a very similar shape to those in the video.
