What was the very first car or motorcyle you ever drove/rode?

Sitting on your dads lap driving doesn't count.

The bike was my mother's Raleigh Supermatic, the same as below.1779615067541.png

You were a lucky chap, getting to drive a brand new car as your first :D

The first car I drove was my mums Vauxhall Viva HB Estate DL (Deluxe - I think Deluxe because it had a heater?).

It was a 1969 model in White with a 1159cc engine and would have been identical in looks to the one in the photos below when new. Of course, it wasn't new and being a 1960's Vauxhall it was very rusty and had no inner front wings left (I think we replaced the front outer wings? Oh and it had to have a new short engine fitted) and had to replace the bonnet as the hinge stays rusted away, so it ended up a two tone - white from A pillar back and grey primer at the front.

When we went out on trips as a family, I used to end up sitting in the boot space (health and safety? in the 70's? I don't think so!).

This car also became the first car I ever owned as after I passed my test she gave it to me and my sister gave me a years car insurance (she worked at a brokers so got some kind of good deal :) )
It was actually a decent enough car to drive and I kept until I bought a old 1966 Triumph Spitfire 4 Mk II from someone at college.
My mum on the other hand replaced it with a LHD Ford Capri Mk II from my Greek Cousin in Germany who she for some reason trusted and ended up with an Orange Cut&Shut :( . A weird choice of car to buy for a granny, but there you go!

PS. As I type this, all I hear outside are blooming noisy rally cars! Jim Clark weekend I believe :)

My dad's Honda 50, followed by a Singer Chamois (flash Hillman imp) £100 with insurance of £110 probably 3rd party f&t.
Triumph Spitfire, cost about £200, sold it eventually for £300, followed by 2 Fiat 127s. Then Volvo 343
First tow car Lada Riva estate to pull a sprite musketeer, then Lads Samara for wife.
Mondeo for towing, fiesta for wife.
Xtrail for towing and 25 mile commute for wife. Mazda Mx5 mk 2 for my male menopause!
T31 Xtrail currently and Hyundai i10 for spare.
First and only new vehicle 2016 Hymer A class still in use.

I've had 2 brand new cars as company cars (Ausin Montego and a Citroen BX) but strictly speaking never 'owned' a brand new car.
I say 'strictly speaking' as I bought a Nissan Qashqai which was a cancelled Motability order. For the dealer to maximize his cut it had to be registered first to him, so I agreed the deal, part-ex'ing my RAV4 and when I went to pick up the Qashqai, it was first registered the day before with delivery miles and I was the 2nd owner. Some strange and pointless rules there, but didn't care as was a nice deal :)

A Davies Sports "Special" LDE565.
Image dated 1966, and the cracked windscreen was a free accessory.

A mini that I drove all over Wales, Scotland and England, and down to Sorrento and back. Image dated 1968.
Taken in Northumberland at Coldgate Mill ford, when almost no-one had heard of it.

Both cars were new to me. 🤣

First vehicle I drove age 10 or 11 was a TVO Nuffield Tractor. First car a Commer Cob van, both off road of course. First street legals a BSA Bantam at 16 and a Renault 4L at 17.

Lambretta 175(?) then a pre farina A40 . A40 had column change , bench seats and no front shock absorbers . Think it cost me £30 in 1970 .
As well as new shockers I had to fit a windscreen washing kit which I never used .
Hit a wall near Hawick one Friday night . £5 to get it towed . Sold it to garage apprentice for £6

First “bike” Lambretta LD125 (NDP27) - cost £5

First car Standard 8 (SLK 60) - cost £15, £10 of which I borrowed from my brother!

Stretching a bit to call it a motorcycle I suppose but first I rode was a French made bicycle with a petrol engine built on. Wasn't a cabled together thing they actually produced them. It was old back in 1968. Old guy over the road where I then lived with my gran had rebuilt it and wanted to give it to me but my Gran said motorcycles (koff, koff) were too dangerous and I couldn't have it and live at her place. As I was 15 and had already walked out of parents home I decided a roof was better at that point lol.

Anyway I don't remember if it was a 30cc or 50cc, pedal it to start it. It was classed as a moped back then.

Just having a Google and I have found it, I did look for this brand earlier as it rang a bell but the pics weren't right as it was a bicycle build. This is it though lol

That's a mobylette, my Bruv had one in pale blue, but a 60's era one.

That pic is why I thought it wasn't at first Kev, everything was coming up with similar to that until I went to the French site and saw pic of the old one. They started to make them look like motorcycles in this on, look at them white wall tyres lol

30 mph top speed though, the NSU Quickly was the best moped back then, my mate had a Capri 80, I could beat him easily, I had higher gear ratios, all two/three of them :D :D
