Quite an interesting application that I am aware is actively used by the emergency services in this country. Indeed Admin has included them in the WC app.

I’ve used it a few times when abroad, for interests sake only, and ‘obviously’ the locations ‘sur le continent’ read in English.

I then created a French version, and the locations are then French - but they aren’t translations of the English ones I’d found. I will assume German for Germany, Italian for Italy. And what the heck in Switzerland with 4 languages?

My question is, if someone is in difficulty abroad and doesn’t know where they are, is the English w3w words of any use to their emergency service?

The reason for this difference is because you can not translate some words into other languages or may need to use two or even three words to translate one word and some words have several different meanings so which one should be translated?
Emergency services should be able to use any language version but do need to know which language you are using!
You can get the coordinates from " What three words " it is in the settings as an option and these are the same in every language. ( Settings, Display settings, Latitude and Longitude. )

I found this app very useful recently when my 17 year old daughter broke down late at night on a back road in the middle of nowhere and I was 200 miles away. Luckily I knew where she was and was able to look up the 3 words for her to give to the breakdown company who were able to tow her home at 2 o’clock in the morning.

It’s good to hear of someone who has actually used it in anger, so to speak.

Having read your reply I now see from setting a secondary language can be set (we are currently in France). Having downloaded and selected French the location box shows the three English words and below the French words. 👍

I’ve just had a look in settings, and lo and behold there is a second language option. Superb.

I hope I never need to use it. :censored:
