Why did you choose your van layout?

We had a budget which went out of the window when we bought our nos 2013 hobby with 17 miles in the clock it was registered on a 15 plate and the decider was £15,000 off The new price
 
I made the mistake of buying the biggest van I could afford which was great for space inside, fixed bed, seperate shower/toilet and a lounge area big enough to fit my entire family in. However whilst staying on sites is good I find it limits our activities in terms of day trips to places of interest. it was a pain trying to squeeze in a 7.5m for parking.

So now in the process of downsizing. Panel van with fixed rear bed but also the option to make up a single in the front. Underslung LPG, solar panel, large insulated and heated water/waste tanks also large storage under fixed bed. I got the xl wheelbase, my theory being if I can park 6m then the extra 35cm should be ok too.

This should fit into my vision of full time touring and wild camping as much as possible.
 
We wanted one that matched our old caravan, it was a set up that we had learned to love, plus it had to be cheap. Hence we are the extremely proud and happy owners of a 1998 Lunar Roadstar
 
Bedroom the size of some house bedrooms separate shower and toilet door that splits van in half to make on suite bedroom. The garage is massive could fit two scooters. Best bit extra wide door to get ma big heed in?

As I've posted on another thread, I only looked at a few Mohos before buying the one I have. I very quickly decided that a fixed bed was important to me and don't regret that decision. It takes up day space but during the day I'm often out and about, especially in the warmer months, so for me it's all positive. I also like having a bed above the cab. It's only ever used for storage but it's very useful - a low profile Moho wouldn't be something of interest to me now. My one preference would be for a shower that can be shut off with a door rather than a curtain.

We wanted

- A fixed bed...after our first MH we found making/unmaking the bed an unnecessary chore which detracted from our enjoyment
- A large lounge where we could stretch out in comfort. We use the MH throughout winter in the UK plus my wife is ill, so we tend to spend more time inside perhaps, than most.

If we change now we will look at drop down bed MH's provided the bed comes down to sitting height. If we can't get one we'll stick with a newer version of what we have (Autotrail Comanche).

our first van had a similar layout to our present 544 got seduced by the big skylight in our bessie 562 only kept it 5 years got tired of dragging the extra meter around to accomadate a fixed bed and we still lost lounge room , when we downsized our house and went shopping with intent looked at loads of vans but even 8 mtr vans didn’t give lounging space which we had determined as our most important factor ,
