We jsut got back from dropping the van off for its MOT, coming up the hill there's a bloke slowly walking out of our drive past the all the houses and having a really good look, get to the last house and comes back down looking again, so we start taking pictures of him every time he looks our way, he eventually get close enough to challenge him bearing in mind three times in the last week or so someone has tried to get into our garage, says he's with open reach they're installing cable up our street, and to be fair there are a lot of their vans on the bottom road, but his hi vis was ancient and it'd be a plausible cover for a scrote wandering around so I'll be hanging on to the pictures for awhile.

Too trusting me.

The 'employee' should have a landyarn/ID Badge on display and should be able to ID himself to you. There is one hapless individual doing the same in Burntisland, looks like an escapee from the Day Centre, we watched him yesterday walk past the target address 3 times until he found the property. Even I, from the other side of the road, and without my specs, could see the brass numbers 127 on the front door ... Had he been about nefarious business, he could have used the side entrance, and he would have been a wee bit quicker to get off the street. 'Bright as a glow worm's armpit' fits the bill ...

There are Data Protection implications for taking photos of individuals in public without their consent, I believe, Kev. To avoid a PC knocking your door to ask why you were taking the photos, I would be inclined to phone the Police and report your suspicions, especially in light of the attempted entry to your garage

I drove down after a cup of tea and he was with the other open reach lads so I think he was probably kosher.

I looked into the data aspect a few years ago, and from what I recall if you have a legitimate reason then you're ok, I think this is how domestic CCTV get around it.

There was a Court case within the last 3 years [IIRC re the date], Kev where a Ring Doorbell Camera was judged to have breached the Privacy/Data Protection Laws because the wide angle lens was effectively spying on a neighbouring property. The onus was judged to be on the homeowner to angle the camera away from an intrusive view. That's why I would rather contact the Police, rather than have them contact me!
