I am hoping to fit the batteries this week.

I am waiting for one last piece of the jigsaw to arrive tomorrow and then I hope to start fitting the lithium batteries. The last piece is a 600A battery isolator which I have ordered from the USA as it was cheaper than the trade price in the UK! Most of the isolators I found were below 350A continuous load rating and I want the continuous load to be 400A and for that not to be the maximum of the isolator.

The battery trays also arrived from the USA and I have started to modify them. I have trimmed the sides to make them narrower and shortened and rethreaded the bolts on the sides.

I am going to the motorhome today and I am going to finish the battery trays and get ready for the install.

That is a nice looking switch :)
Finding a switch with the right current capacity can be very hard. I ended up with a 275A one but would have preferred higher.
What are you using for a Fuse Holder (if you are using a master fuse)? All the ones I have tried are appropriately rated but the plastics all get quite warm!

I am going to be using a Victron Lynx power in. Each of the batteries will have a 100A fuse. I already have one fitted as an output busbar. I nicked the idea from Journey with Jono.

This will explain more, I have jumped to the relevant part of the video.

I hope you're putting a glass door on the locker so everyone can see the shiny things, and the nice install :)

I do like the look of those Victron Lynx units. I am waiting to get approval for a bank loan to be able to buy one!

Yesterday was a big day in the saga. The original batteries have been removed. I have raised the floor in the locker by 10.5cm to avoid a heater pipe and installed the battery trays.

I spent lots of time shaping the MDF panel and making the supports to hold it. I set up the camera perfectly and did a great commentary giving really detailed explanations of each step.

Finally, with the light outside failing and no power in the van, I decided to call it a day. I reached up to the camera to stop it recording only to find that I had forgotten to press record. Arrrrrrrgh!

Doh! Looking forward to seeing the new setup.

Today’s efforts mean that all the wiring in the side locker is done. The inverter is setup for lithiums. The battery monitor can now disable alternator charging. The MPPT controller is set for Lithiums. I have built up the power in and installed it and the isolator. The heat shrink on that connection cable looks a bit naff and I may sort that. All I have left to do now is make up two negative cables and install the last two batteries.644C94E8-87FC-480F-B8BC-E65913EC40D5.jpeg
