The dreaded Sciatica has struck me down, at first it was just my left side, two days later both sides, so now I am cranky and very short tempered. I am consuming Ibuprofen at a rate that I will be glad to be finished with when the inflammation subsides. If you are unlucky enough to have suffered this malady, you will understand my pain, if not I hope you never have to!

Hopefully it will soon subsides very painful ?

oh...feel for you Debs......... a few years ago i was suffering horrendous backpain...etc....DR said SCIATICA.......which went on for months......pain that is..........then a few months of moderate pain..........then it all started again........again Dr. said SCIATICA........... so had to endure it all again.
cut a long story short...........3rd time it happened i was staying up nr durham...DR. there immediately sent me for xray then scan.......turns out it WASNT SCIATICA...........i had indeed been suffering from a fractured vertebrae each time......//////
scan showed new fracture and two previous ones.....i had no falls etc...it just happened.
get it check properly debs............have you tried VOLTEROL....... i found that better that most other creams etc.
problem is with back pain it effects almost every other part of the body...at least thats what i found..........

do hope you get it sorted soon ...in the meantime take care...

Hope it improves soon! Dave has it at the moment following his hospital stay.....but it is so much better now than two weeks ago! Grumpy was a kind way of describing his mood!

Get well soon debs,
They’ve changed the advice now when I first did mine it was three weeks flat on your back resting but now they say keep moving,
I set mine off again just before the Moffat music festival but with lots of core exercises and stretches I feel loads better.
Get out in that van and get some sun on your bones that will help ?

Every sympathy, when I suffered from it I described it as like having severe toothache stretching from my back and right down my leg.
Very well put... for strengthening your core I use a body blade, I sincerely believe that's what has kept me out of a wheel chair. :D

As a fellow sufferer you have to keep moving as AndyJanet said and it’s all about posture and helping your lower back to heal by not slouching in chairs etc or sitting for long periods if possible. The NHS has a page recommending some exercises and there are some reputable books of guidance on self help for lower back problems such as those by Robin McKenzie which can be downloaded if you have a Kindle.
Hope it eases soon.
Dave

I'm a long-time sufferer. My GP was a waste of time as all he wanted to do was feed me strong pain killers (co-codamol and stronger) and valium (as a muscle relaxant), which 'spaced me out'. A physiotherapist helped a lot more. Turns out that my problem is the disk between L4/L5 vertebrae 'bulging' and pressing on the sciatic nerve. On a bad day, I can't get out of bed. However, careful management and the right exercises keeps it at bay and helps reduce duration and intensity of pain when it strikes. IME, some of McKenzie's guidance is less than helpful (e.g. a McKenzie roll only makes things worse for me) while some of his guidance really works. I suspect that the optimum regime depends on the individual, so you need to find out what works for you rather than religiously following something without one-to-one advice. HTH, Geoff

Poor you. I get it relatively mildly down my right leg. Particularly when driving. I googled some of the exercises, many of which I do something similar when I do Pilates. I also run (infrequently), so I am relatively fit. And have a strong core. However one piece of advice that really helps is for driving. I put a cushion on the chair is it lifts my bottom above my knees. And this really makes a difference.

Thanks every one, the pain is easing and so far today, no pain killers. I do have a fitness hoola hoop, but I get lazy and last Saturday, I did some heavy gardening which was the cause of everything, so as soon as I am able I will be building up my exercises with my hoola hoop!

Anyone tried CBD oil a friend who suffers recommended it to me
there was a thread on WC i believe about a year or so ago... just when it became ...legal,,, a few were going to try it and post on their experience of it...........dont know whether they did or not.....or whether i missed the posts.........
no idea how you would find that thread tho......it mayhave been on this site or WC.....

would be interesting to see if it does relieve pain..........maybe someone will be able to inform

Had a search an couldn't find anything. Think I remember oppy mentioning it in a thread as well but can't find that either

Had it one side only, you have my sympathies.

When I had sciatica, the Doctor eventually referred me to the physiotherapy dept at the local hospital. They set me a routine of exercises that I had to go to their gym and do, twice a week. It took me about an hour at first but gradually my time improved, even adding on more repeats of each exercise, till I was down to about 35 mins and they declared me fit.

I make cbd,I am happy to talk to anyone about CBD. I posted my website this very morn,it lasted about 10 mins. I have a licence to grow industrial hemp and we are in our third year. hemploymentuk.com

I have learnt the hard way that gardening does it every time- easy to forget the time so I set the timer in my phone for 30 mins and get away from the bending and do something else, seems to work a treat, just takes more days to get the garden done ?
