solar panels

I have no idea of the particular circumstances of your loss and not implying that the following applies to you at all.
But it does annoy me when inconsiderate people park up beside you and set a genny running which spoils the otherwise quiet and peaceful atmosphere. It's even worse when you're sat outside and they just go inside to watch the tv seemingly oblivious of the aggravation forced upon everyone else within earshot. So in that situation I can understand some people maybe taking matters into their own hands to remedy the situation, not legal but each to their own principles I guess. In my own view people who want to use generators should either park well away from others or else all park together. Solar power is far more sociable. ?

I understand your reply and agree up to a point about parking elsewhere

What if the genny was being used to provide medical power, cpap or a ventilator device or something?

Personally I don’t want to park next to anyone. If I am going to be close it’s usually with sensible, tolerant people, those who would run a generator when needed (not for tv watchIng) and those who wouldn’t mind.

. But solar is rubbish in winter .

So sad to read of the rehomed generator for what ever reason. I too was once one of those annoying people with a generator, though I did try not to be the first or last with one running. Not a big tele fan our electrical needs are mainly refrigeration. The journey into to solar proved very frustrating and expensive. It was found that what will work and what works most of the time is very different. We ended up with 500watts of panels on the roof. Having a flexible roof limited our choice in panels, and upped the cost. We've now upgraded our electronics and are able to operate with four panels. The winter performance is not wonderful, but being theoretically over capacity helps to that end. With our new build we are using a different type of panel G.I.G.S. Not as efficient as most, but in low light and low angle sun the performance is supposed to be better. Another down side is that the panels are bigger. There won't be much room on the roof. Being silent should help with any neighbours. I'll post something in winter about it even if I'm proved a fool.

My 100w solar and 110ah lb got me through 5 winter days at the New Year meet. My fridge runs on gas though, so electrical needs are low.

shame you had the generator stole what a load of balls obout noisy generators this guy needed it for medical reasons I’ve got one always will have it but just for back up it’s the same model you had stolen the Honda iu20 probably as quite a gennarater as you can get I know you were only running it because you needed it for you’r C pap machine so if you were classed as inconsiderate You bought a Honda because it’s quite if you were inconsiderate you would have bought the cheap crappy noisy thing from lidl for a 100 quid. Hope you’re solar works out.?

We don’t often stay in one place that long even in Summer. The solar actually only added a little at New Year, and I did use a little golf cart battery to help with some i pad charging. I think that with a compressor fridge it would be difficult in Winter for long stays with only solar, but it’s certainly possible with one using gas.
