So today I had to have the eye test and medical, got to fill the other form in tomorrow to renew the licence for the C1 for the second time, I love our Hymer so let’s hope things go well (main problem is my doctor says that I have type 2 diabetes)

Hope your eye test goes OK. I was told by my GP that I was borderline Diabetic 2. I immediately cut out refined sugar, started to watch what I ate, now am free.

Many thanks for the replies and good wishes, out of curio what did you cut out to be free ? Eye test went ok (?) I have to wear glasses to be able to get the C1, eyes were more or less the same as 3 years ago, i have diabetes’s 2, that’s the worrying bit, there’s another minor problem, dvla, messed up the expiry date on my current licence and are not prepared to alter it, it finishes on the 31st August but my 73rd birthday is actually the 13th October

We watched portion size etc, cut out Red meat, More veg and salad etc. Watch your fat intake. I'm afraid Full English is now a thing of the past, although I do like a Bacon sarnie, now and again. If you can, Look up Dr Michael Mosley online. He was Type 2, and he cured his self. It is possible to beat diabetes, so good luck. How come the DVLA mess up, then refuse to change it.

The DVLA have not messed up. They date the new licence from the date they process and issue the new one ....... they still advise you that you can apply several months before the due renewal date. I lost about 7 weeks that way. My next application next year will be posted the day before the old one expires.

To reverse type two diabetes , you must drop carbohydrates, nearly everything made in a factory is packed with sugar of one name or another (52 types of name for sugar on a packet). Flour and meals of all types are to go , potatoes pasta and definitely everything with LOW FAT on it is packed with sugars to make the Shite taste of something, palatable.. EAT, FAT, and PROTEIN. Proper fat from an animal cook in LARD or coconut oils, Cream, Butter NEVER margarine, NEVER anything called vegetable oil, as yhey will be an omega 6 oils, and as bad as you can take, of anything. Saturated fat is NOT BAD for you it is a lie by the big food manufacturers making the poisons you buy to eat. Even breakfast cereals will cause a huge insulin spike and that is where the weight comes from, as you will become insulin resistant the glucose gets dumped in the liver and adipose fat cells. Non-alcoholic liver disease is the big belly people get and is not easy to move
Look on 'You tube' for the Ivor Cummins, the Fat Emperor site of the Irish Heart disease awareness, charity. Look for another site for, Dr David Unwin, and follow all that he says as a guide. He explains it very well and tells how he came across the remedies
The modern diet is as it is because of the lies of Ansel Keyes from the 1960 on he is responsible for more deaths the Adolf Hitler and Stalin together and ended as a millionaires with all the lying research he is supposedly put forwards as the Food Guidlines the US government and the UK one as well took up and ran with.
Everybody with Heart disease has diabetes, just not diagnosed yet. It is the killer of most of the people in the West. It can be reversed and it take only a short time from the change of lifestyle to being in remission for the rest of your life. Simple changes and the avoidance of the wrong foods will make so much difference to your life. I lost a stone in four weeks when I changed to the low carb lifestyle (not diet. it is a change of direction)
Never felt so good for the last couple of year, reversed all my problems with my health and I was following the government guidelines and life was becoming bad, now it is so much better now the truth was revealed to me through reading the medical research, All I learnt in my training at University was a lie, and now I am retired I have time and inclination to follow what has been hidden for years, from the profession.
FAT IS GOOD, eat it and enjoy it. Do not believe what the corporations put out in the media. The medical profession is coming around to the truth and like me found it difficult to change the teaching of years of propaganda.

In simple terms if you want to lower blood sugar stop eating carbohydrates and fruits, something else will kill you but you will lower your blood sugar level.

Could I suggest you buy a Fitbit and monitor how much exercise you do by noting the paces you take daily.

The Fitbit will also monitor other things to help maintain your health and healthier lifestyle.

As suggested above the food you eat is vital in diabetics but combining that with exercise will reduce your weight and that will help you.

I do around 15,000 steps a day most days (I'm 77) and my wife (74) is disappointed if she doesn't manage 20,000 steps.

We are both losing weight gradually and although it means searching out the clothes from the depths of the wardrobe we wore years ago that were a smaller size we get satisfaction in being able to get in them again – something we thought a year or two ago that we would ever do again.

Having a dog to help the exercise may not always be possible – but it has certainly helped us – and the dog !!!!

Not that easy . Blood sugars are unnecessary and their excess is the cause of Diabetes type 2, the body keeps pumping out the insulin and that pushes the excess glucose to the liver and adipose fat, also allows Ghrellin to circulate to the brain making you feel hungry and wanting snacks or more food to top up the load already in there.. All heart disease victims are diabetic but just not diagnosed yet. Those two diseases alone, are enough for me to not want to take carbs anymore. Eat fat, and proteins and become healthier, eat sugar and manufactured foods and get the diseases of modern western countries. Also PUFA's are responsible for a load more problems. That means all margarine and manmade 'vegetable oils' The worst of all is the US made and subsidised High sucrose corn syrup which is killing the population off as that is the source of most of the hidden sugars in the western diet, it is in nearly EVERYTHING that come out of a factory and called 'food'.

PS before you all start attacking me , I weigh 64 kilos and a BMI of 22. A lot of the people at the rally seemed to be a lot more than that and should pay heed to what I say above. It is very easy to do I lost a stone in 4 weeks eating proper food not supermarket sold shite in packets.

I lost 7.5 stone and kept if off, with a low carb diet. We don’t eat packaged foods, I cook a mainly Mediterranean diet. Oodles of butter and olive oil. Happy to cook with cream. Lots of mashed cauliflower and sweet potato. Very little fruit, but lots of veggies (don’t know if this is a good thing, but I know too much fruit causes a spike). Didn’t know much science behind what I did, but that and a small plate made sense. And it tastes better!
Since I’ve lost the weight, I can now exercise. A bit naughty now, in that ice cream and cheese go into a separate stomach!

Hope OP C1 goes Ok.

OK, many thanks for ALL your comments, the SAGA has almost come to an end. We got back from Germany and Europe on the 24th June, I posted the application to renew my C1 section. Three weeks go by and then I receive a letter from DVLA, my doctor has filled the form in incorrectly, I need to go and see her to correct HER mistake, this she does after some deliberation, back in the post to dvla. Another couple weeks go by and I receive a questionnaire from dvla about my sleep disorder problem (a problem that I DO NOT have), so I phone dvla and question this questionnaire letter, OH NO, says the girl at dvla, you shouldn't have received that, ignore it, so I do. A couple of weeks after that I receive another questionnaire about my eyes which I filled in and returned, (oh, by the way, I've been checking the dvla site EVERY day to see if they've included the C1 again, NO) A week or so later another letter arrives saying that I'd obviously filled the form in incorrectly, would I amend it and return it, which I did. Useless film on last night so I thought I'll check dvla again, lo and behold my licence details now say that I have the C1 back again, no licence through the post yet, but we all live in anticipation.

Hopefully the end of the saga until I'm 76, but I wont be going to my doctor again for the medical report, DRIVER MEDICAL'S next time.

I'm off out for a meal shortly (my good lady's birthday) to celebrate her birthday and the return of the C1.

Enjoy your MOTORHOMING

It's not only someones GP that can fill the D4 incorrectly, couple of years ago my cousin ( he's my van chauffeur shouldI break a leg) took the D4 Medical for C1. Driving home from the 'D4Drivers Medical' I noticed 2
mistakes, weight as 177.00kg. Height as 1.77m. Should have been 80kg and 1.87m. Quick U turn
doc. corrected and signed. Tootled off and noticed height written as 1.71m. I got my black biro
out and changed it myself to a convincing 1.87m. Moral of this tale......check the D4 carefully before
leaving. DVLA might question 177kg weight 27stone!! And in a serious situation the cops might
find a 4" height discrepancy suspicious as well.!! Plus time lost with repeating. Also allow plenty
of time to relax, you don't want your strawberry pumping out over 180mm/Hg systolic!!
Apparently the doc. carrying out the C1 Medicals looked very, very bored, or was asleep!

The DVLA have stopped taking medicals from the companies that performed this service ... apparently. It will have to be your Doctor.

I read something to that effect recently. But I think it might have been inaccurate reporting,
in that what was meant was an individual company was being targeted with a ban.
Because I still see adverts for these Drivers Medical centres as if unaffected, but I
stand to be corrected.

Yes - since 20-6-2019 DVSA are not accepting reports from Doctors on Wheels Ltd.
There are plenty of other providers of course.

Unbelievably - or maybe not I emailed Doctors on Wheels specifically asking whether they could do a medical that DVSA would accept and they said yes!!
I suppose if the form is signed by a registered doctor and makes no mention of DoW how would DVSA know - I wouldn't chance them yet though.

No Worries - I am Type 2 since age 40 and always pass for C+E. Am 59 now, next Medical is for 3 years and every year therafter

I did my HGV medical last week, its just a box ticking exercise for the doc,he checked my eyes and bp,asked me a load of questions and I was out of there within 10 minutes. I don't go to doctors otherwise so I may well have heart disease, cancer, diabetes etc etc,so for me I can answer no to all questions by ensuring im never actually diagnosed with any of the items listed.
