Good Morning.

Can anyone recommend a cheap half decent drone? I'm not looking for anything overly fancy and even 720p would be fine as I only intend to use the videos on my blog.

Thanks

Phill

Something to be aware of.... If the weight is over a certain weight (≥250g I think, from memory), you have to register the drone and also pass an operators test (on-line).
Don't have an recommendations, but that might be a factor? (The <250g drones I think are basically just the indoor toys?)

Son has passed the operators test as he has large drones but recently bought one of these for when out walking. Under 250g so no licence / test required. He is an experienced drone operator and well impressed with this new drone that is ultra portable.

Operators license is £9 and relatively easy to pass online, with the (civil aviation board).
Don't let this put you off.
What price are you thinking ?
I have a dji mavic pro £600 second hand

This one is Very Very cheap

You might like to try one

Depends what you want.
All I might want is to hover over/near our camping spot for a few aerial images.
Maybe fly over the odd river/gorge nearby
I appreciate that some stunning photography can be done with better kit but I do not want that !

There are quite a few cheap drones available, many are reviewed on YouTube, it may help your decision making to have a search there.
I don’t know your budget, but I have had a few drones over the years, the best of which, overall was a DJI Phantom

Mpb photographic have some used ones for sale including a Phantom 3 standard for around £270

Never looked at one before didn't realise that you could get one for that sort of money Reviews are good be nice to see how good the camera images are

I expect it is rubbish for serious work but I may buy one as a toy just to record stopovers and nearby items

Sorry, way over what I had in mind. As per Jagmanx, I just want something cheap and cheerful (emphasis on the cheap!) to garb a couple of aerial shots/videos of our van and some of our camping spots for my blog.

Thanks

Good idea, YouTube here I come :D

If your cheap drone price is same as mine (max £50) see if you can get a go at flying one first. Step son could fly the one I got no problems but I got lots of crashes. I am useless with game console controllers as well though lol

I'll wait til you both report back

I've been using mavic mini for many months now. Small but 4k video. Kit has three batteries, easily charged from USB. Practically flies itself. Good in strong winds and once up is almost silent - good for campsite review. Uses H265 so quality video in small files so good for YouTube etc.

Get one with GPS. The ones without GPS are much more difficult to control.
I bought a cheapish drone a few years ago and found it very tricky indeed to send where I want it to. The GPS ones do seem to be so much easier to fly and the "follow me" and "return home" features (think that is what they are called?) must make them much more useful.

Is there any sort of insurance required or available in case the worst happens. Also whats the position on overflying people and property. Spoke to a friend last night about drones and he said that someone was flying one over his village and residents were up in arms some threatening to shoot it down if it came over their property.
