Remember to pay the Builder.

I don't understand why a job would be too small :( A few years back I was called by a guy who had just started up on his own, he wanted a phone system with three extensions when I told him I'd come and take a look and then give him a quote, he said that other than BT I was the only telephone engineer interested in doing the job because they thought it was too small to bother with, they had much bigger jobs on. Of course I got the job because isn't hard to undercut BT's prices :ROFLMAO: Over the next few years he moved premises three times and I got the phone work every time and the last job we did was for 354 Cat6 points for data and telephone 😁 So I'm glad I didn't think his job was too small 😂

Kind regards,

You can use little isolation valves for that, good man leaving the heating on when away, many forget this to come home to a flooded house. (y)
My other half cant see this even trying to explain that the underfloor heating is a large heat sink and when it gets cold it takes days to get back upto temp. Just tell her its on holiday mode and will come on a couple of days before we get back to keep the peace.

You fitt rad valves upstairs but not downstairs,

I don't know if it's different there, but here:

Building Regulations state that all new and modified wet central heating systems must have a TRV fitted to every radiator (apart from one where the room thermostat or programmable thermostat is installed, typically in the hall).

One thing I have learnt is that some builders tend to over quote if the job is too small or too trivial for their expertise. I just wish they would be more honest about not wanting the job. One guy said week after week he would send a quote by a certain day. As he was my second quote I hung on. Then gave up.
Other side of coin: A great plumber who came to quote for the shower room. Absolutely honest in his sorry the job wasnt big enough fir him. He was then working on a rather larger house than mine; it had 6 bathrooms! ( as rec by friend I found that was true)
Charlie Mullins didnt think any job was to small, He has nice place in Dubai now!!!!!

I don't know if it's different there, but here:
Yes and the hall is not where the stat goes as you dont sit there, it should be in the living room, thats why its called a room stat, dont use trv valves downstairs as it strangles the sys which in turn stops the stat clicking of, I stopped listening to the crap about heating years back as 90% of it is crap.
Mother inlaw got free heating fitted and it works and looks like shit with big pipes running down the walls to rads, lazy barstewarts could not be bothered tracking the floors and hiding the pipes, total mess.

Agree with lack of apprenticeship opportunities nowadays its getting harder to find good tradesmen. At a property we have in East Lothian Christina had a local painter paint the outside of the house two years ago, i was down there two weeks ago and the paint is coming off the sill already, no prep work or prepped incorrectly how difficult can painting be?
Painting is very difficult....Just look at the mess(es) Picasso left....oops they are worth millions or as Trev would say ,Zillions.

I'm all for the builder, hopefully he does not get taken to court.
