Cynical Money Making Scheme or what?

I am staying at a Camp Site in Greater London, and before I booked I check to see if it was in the London LEZ Zone (be potentially be an extra cost for some older vans. When I checked that also I found my van was exempted (surprisingly) as it happens).

The site is just a few miles outside, but whilst I was checking I noticed something that I really think is very cynical and likely a bit of a unexpected surprise for a good number of people ....

This is the LEZ Charging Zone (https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/low-emission-zone/about-the-lez)

The bit I noticed was down the bottom by Epsom ...

The LEZ generally is fairly logical, following 'natural' routes and features to form a rough circle around London, but for some unusual reason, a lump has been added in the south-west part, with a little gap to allow people to carry on driving aongside the A3

Now I wonder ... could it be that it was extended to capture visitors going to Chessington World of Adventures by any chance? Once the zone is established, it can become much simplier to reduce the exemptions more and more.

Think you've got that right.

Please be aware that from 25/10/21 the London ULEZ is expanding out to the North and South Circular roads:

Colin 🙂🙂🙂

To be honest, since the zones were originally set up, I've always looked upon London as everywhere within the M25. I know there's a funny extension near Ockendon, but as a rule of thumb it's good enough to me.

I actually thought the LEZ was just about everything within the M25 so was a bit surprised generally when I looked at the map.

im sure i heard on radio or tv the other day ...that older vehicles will be charged £12.50 per day to use M25.....or have i got it wrong......

I think you'll find the London Mayor's proposal is to impose a Greater London Boundary Charge on non-resident drivers who enter the outer London boroughs.

You'll have to pay £5.50 - or £3.50 for low-emission cars - to cross the border into Greater London - a border that largely follows the line of the M25.

It mimics my historical and inevitable view of London as described in Post #4 above.

I hope they put it up even higher as it will make it even less likely I'll ever have to visit the festering bum hole of a place workwise....

And work is about THE only reason I'd EVER have to visit.
Bit harsh init.😳
Luckily, our only remaining sibling to reside in the zone, moved to Great Yarmouth a few weeks ago. Where she lived was less than a mile into the zone. If visiting on my own, I would have parked just north of the North Circular and walked down.

Harsh?

I'd rather visit Morecambe than London
