Gaslow/Gasit or Underslung Tank

Advice and experiences please.

We've got a 2015 Autocruise Accent

We're considering replacing the "calor" gas bottles in the Accent as it's becoming more difficult to get them in and out of the quite tight gas locker as I'm getting older ☹️

The options seem to be

1.Two 6kg Gaslow or Gasit bottles with in locker filler (might be tight), locker door filler or external filler.

2. One 6, kg "Calor" bottle and one 6kg Gaslow/Gasit bottle with fillers as above

3. Underslung tank

I know there are cost differences between the different setups.

How much do you travel ?
Using 1 calor and one gasit/gaslow
Still requires swapping the calor so would not be my choice.
In the summer 2 x 11kg gasit does us over 1 month (fulltime).
Uk or Europe ?

Yes you're right about keeping 1 calor, didn't think that through did I? Unfortunately couldn't get 2 11kg in, reading elsewhere even 1 11kg is tight.

Mainly UK, especially off grid in winter, so using a lot of gas with heating.

Thanks for your reply

My gas locker is quite tight too. I went for two 6kg gaslow bottles with auto changeover and an external fill. It’s been in 7 years now, paid for itself in gas savings several times over and much easier than changing bottles.

2×6 gas it or gaslow.
You can always back feed a calor /French /Spanish. Or others from out side bbq point.

+1 vote. We had the same system fitted by Autoleisure, just outside Thirsk,in mid July, and it is brilliant, and a lot less aggro than exchanging bottles. Asda at one end of Kirkcaldy sells LPG, as does Morrisons at the other end of town, so we're spoiled for choice!

30kg is maximum I think, might only be 25kg
25 kg is loads about 50 litres.
In Summer we use less than 1 litre a day.
So guess at 2 litres a day in winter still 25 days...enough time to find lpg.
Maybe EHU sometimes as well

I have 2 x 11kg Alugas cylinders with manual changeover and have been on a CS site for 2 1/2 weeks due to all my family at home having COVID, will go home when they are all clear.
Due to the cold weather I have been going through gas at an alarming rate, 2 fill ups to date and will probs need another next week. In your position I would go for the largest underslung tank you can fit and retain 1 x 6kg cylinder in the gas locker as a backup.

Thanks, that's a really interesting solution. Hope family are better soon and you can go home
If you do decide to go for 2 x 6kg refillables personnelly I would have manual changeover unless you have a dash mounted level indicator.
I run off one cylinder and when it gets low / runs out change onto second cylinder, i then know it’s time to organise a refill.

Thanks, I already have a manual changeover so would keep that.

I operate a low tech approach; before the start of each trip, I open the gas cupboard and have a look at the gauges. As soon as the first bottle is around 50%, I call in at Morrisons or Asda and combine the diesel refuel with a gas refill ...

autogas at thirsk are worth a visit if it’s feasible for you will supply & fit any system you need & advise , personally i would go with the underslung tank as big as poss at 1.95 ltrs to the kg a 30kg tank will give you almost 60ltrs of gas
