Covers or Re-cover: front seats

The fabric on the front seats of our van have worn a little threadbare and I need to either have them re-covered by an upholsterer or fit seat covers. I suspect that covers would be the cheaper alternative, but I haven't yet found any that would fit. So I'd be grateful for recommendations for either seat covers or an upholsterer in Devon or Cornwall. The van is a 2001 Autotrail Scout and I've included a piccy of the seat backs to give an idea of what Autotrail fitted. Thanks, Geoff

One van we bought the previous owner had gone to one of those places that made loose covers for suites etc, and just had them make some for the van in a similar colour, looked good and kept their shape.

We had new covers made to suit all of the loose cushions, the 2 seats we just used slip on covers, we used an upholstery company in Ottery St Mary. But that was 10 years ago so I can’t tell you if they exist any more.

The quality of the slip on covers is very good for the price. We bought 2 sets and alternate them each year, and wash them ready for next time.

I don’t recall if these were they, but it’s a maybe.

edit - a quick look on Google maps and they are in the same premises. By the way what they made for us is excellent.

Not for a Motorhome, but for a Car, I have used a company in the Marsh Barton Industrial Estate (they were located in a little block opposite the Fiat Dealership)

(They may have a new name now due to the Saville fallout!)

I've just fitted a set of these, a bit of a fiddle but a wonderful improvement

They repaired a car seat for me as well, quite a good match of fabric.

Thanks for the recommendation. By the look of it, they've changed their name to TFI Motor Trimmers, the address would seem to be Unit 6, Crofton Road:

Thanks for that. Jan spotted a set on Amazon from the same manufacturer in beige, which is a better colour match for us. That looks at least worth a punt, so we'll give those a try as we should be able to return them if they turn out to be garbage.

Remember though, our 'van is a quarter of a century old, so even beach towels would be an improvement

LOL -- our van isn't that far behind yours and the covers we've now ordered have good reviews. One site that offers a retrimming service wants £850 and the van for four days to do the front seats. Four years ago, Regal Furnishings gave a ball-park estimate of about £2,000 for the entire van. Judging by what the other service estimates for entire vans, I suspect that £850 isn't too far off an average for retrimming both front seats.

That would double the value of our van
