That’ll be Wully screwed for visiting Spain.

The technical term for the alleged 'article' is utter gonads. The headline says 'Scots must ...' yet the body of the article says 'Scots AND travellers from the UK (Independence granted on an unpublicised basis?) MAY be asked to provide proof of funds and return tickets, conditions which have featured on UK Government website Travel Advice Pages for several months

Looking at the way Wee Nichola Krankie is running the show.....
I think they're right to be worried...
I'll get me coat...🤭

And to expand on that, and the article does include this info but couldn't guess from the headline ....
""Foreigners from third countries must prove if required to do so by the officials in charge of controlling the entry of people into Spanish territory, that they have economic resources for entering the country, through cash, traveller’s cheques, payment letters, or credit cards, which must also be proven to have sufficient funds available on them."
so it is NOT just Scots, it is NOT just Brits, it is potentially ANYONE from outside the EU.

But don't let facts stand in the way of a good (hah!) story :)

We were asked for proof of funds when we sailed from Newcastle to Amsterdam in March. We hadn't already booked our return, so we had to prove we had €100 x two people x 90 days. I had to show what our balance was on my banking app.

I would, because she is competent, something that is an alien concept to the UK Government. Strange how people slag off the leader of a Government in a country they've never lived in, relying upon tabloid headlines (lies) and infantile name calling

They work on the assumption you are staying for 90 days just because you don't have a return date booked?
That could be awkward for just about anyone. how many people keep the equivalent of €18,000 in their current account? I certainly do not

Geez, I thought article was pure garbage from another online news rag. Your reply above is the first I have heard of folks being asked to show proof of funds.

Our recent tunnel crossing was a one way ticket, return not booked yet, French customs did not ask us for proof of funds, very strange 💸

Yes, but he was an awkward little so and so anyway. He had already asked if we had anything to declare such as knives (erm, its a motorhome, of course I have knives) and he looked in the cutlery drawer to see them. He spent about 20 minutes going over our paperwork and the dog's AHC papers.

Fortunately, my pension lump sums had recently been paid and were still in a savings account rather than invested so they covered the amount. I imagine we could have argued that regular top ups from pensions would be getting credited over the coming weeks, but we thought it was still a bit cheeky.

We are heading out again soon, but taking the tunnel this time so we aren't expecting any hassle!

Have you looked at the 4 hour delays (P&O passengers & crew, which are one and the same now, but you do get £5 discount if you've ever hired a rowboat) or 6 hours that DFDS are quoting (but that's the French operation, so may include lunchbreaks) 🙄
We've not had any checks at Newhaven, Dieppe, Dover or Calais, and have not been asked for either proof of funds or return tickets (last crossing was 21st June), but, as the ante is raised (or the French take back control of their side of the fence), they can cause havoc by merely applying the Rules ... There is a report this morning that the new Entry/Exit System (due Sep 22) will involve passengers leaving their vehicles to provide biometric data ... Oh, Joy 👎

We met a similar man when sailing from Plymouth and while waiting to board saw him leaving the area with a bulging clear plastic bag full of assorted kitchen knives which he had confiscated from travellers he said for the protection of the crew.
I wonder why we never have this when traveling home when its the same ferry company

Tunnel is booked and paid for Steve, including the return trip (just because it suited us to do it, nothing to do with keeping 90 days worth of money in the bank).

Supplementing his salary by opening a brocante stall at the local marché perhaps!
