Habitation check - am I expecting too much?

I contacted a Mobile Hab Check company - price seemed ok - but I looked at details of what they do - and it appears that they only tell you what faults they have found (I.e we have a blocked gas burner on the hob) - but they don't actually do the service - we would have to find someone else to do that!
Is that usual?

Hab checks are just that, they follow/test a set list of requirements as per the manufacturer's specifications (which vary considerably). If the vehicle is out of warranty, then yes rectifying any faults will be an extra cost.

Is the query that
a) repairs are not part of the check price (that would be very unlikely to be the case).
or - and I think this is the issue -
b) they are just not able to fix anything even if you did pay them? and so you have to go elsewhere?

Problem with situation b) is that you are maybe getting told you have a problem you already knew (gas burner say) and then you go elsewhere and end up paying someone else to diagnose the same fault and then pay them to fix it.

I see these Habitation Checks in the same kind of light as getting an AA/RAC check on a car - Handy if you are buying so you can negotiate with the seller to get fixed (or money off), but on a vehicle you already own is there any real point?
I think if it was already my van, at the least I would go to a 'one-stop shop' who could deal with the basics like fixing a hob or fan or whatever.

IMO a!most a waste of time and money.
As posted nothing gets fixed.
The only things that are useful are..
1 Gas leak check (if it is done)
2 Damp check.
3 plumbing leak (again if checked ?)

Gas leak apart you can do the rest.

Would you pay anyone to check your tyre pressures ?
Or oil level and water in radiator.
Indeed checking that all (motoring) lights work is easy enough.

The guy in Galashiels will repair small jobs as part of the service he also greased all hinges and locks as part of the £140 fee.

If you are wanting penetration spray, try Plusgas (https://amzn.to/3bqI3tc). More effective and longer lasting.
Just suggesting something as a minor lubricant to keep items free and moving in the vehicle.
Hinged , window catches and the like
Mainly to prevent problems.
As part of my own "habitation service" perhaps 2x year or as needed.

Yes I now remember Plusgas.
Might be needed for the nuts on the mechanism which holds the spare wheel under the vehicle.
Not now...... I need a safe way of raising the vehicle so I can crawl underneath.

worth a spray! I remember trying to remove the underslung spare wheel on my VW T5 just after I bought it.... took 30 minutes to undo the first nut and I was knackered and sweating. Luckily I was doing to on the driveway just to remove and not by the side of a road with a puncture!

I also need to get the spare wheel out so we can refurbish it to match the others...and check the tyre/pressure.
Maybe a task for the Mot/service garage to swapout the spare for one of the 4 wheels. ???
After all they have all the gear.

I pay through the nose for one every year just to keep the warranty up. If our MH was out of warranty I'd probably still have one done but not every year and not by a main line dealer.
