I managed to turn my Nokia Phone into a brick on Sunday night ... Must have pressed a button when crawling about in the Van, and the display went to Voice Only Input. Unable to restore a keyboard, and a Laptop Web Search said the keyboard loss was a common fault that rebooting would cure. The mistake I made was removing the Voice Input, despite the 'install keyboard' button being greyed out; because the Google programming triumph displays a 'Enter Password after Device Restart' message, which is quite difficult without a keyboard ...

I thought I had lost all my data, but, buying a new phone has recovered most stuff. Unfortunately, Google wants to transfer data from my old phone to complete the new phone set up, and I can't because I cannot enter the Password for the old phone without a keyboard, norcan I reinstate the Voice Input on the old phone ...'So, 'twas on the Monday morning that the Gas Man came to call' as Flanders and Swann sang ...

Meanwhile the new phone keeps nagging to transfer the data to complete its set up, which is why I turned off the Voice Input on the old phone when my response, 'Oh do foxtrot oscar' appeared on screen, sans keyboard ... Might need to contact Google Tech Support ...

Good luck with that, better go to the phones tech support, Googles is basically a forum nowadays.

See my Reply at Post #4, Kev

Clever people at Google, but, as is often the case, there is a lack of common sense, because allowing the keyboard to be remain out of service when turning off Voice Input, without a 'Warning, you will not be able to restart your device' Message, is not the greatest bit of coding ...

Do not rely on amy single device ?
You can often retreive apps and maybe data.
Use a synching service such as google drive for pc and a subsystem for tablet and or phone.
Thus data i save on my tablet gets synched with my pc.
And a nasbox backup.
Despite what our "Irish cousin" might say...
Google drive and photos does very nicely for me.

Do this with firefox or duckduckgo, NEVER with google spymaster, he will nick the nickers of you and come back for your socks.

I assume you have personal reasons for not wanting Google etc, but I've never had any trouble at all ever.

Yep they go through everything on the pc or phone like a woman through your wallet, stay well clear, have you tried Brave or falcon etc.

Nope, and not going to Trev. You're preaching to a brick wall on this, Chrome is just fine for me, if ever it isn't I'll switch to something minty etc.

Don`t use Chrome an awful lot, having been a Firefox man for many years. however lately I note that even Google are wanting to set up 2 step verification? for my E-Mail?. As I don`t live with my mobile phone welded to my arm, it`s a bit of a PIA each time, just to read Mail. Can see it for online banking, but just for this?.
