Flew in a C130 many year ago as a cadet, sqd week trip to RAF Machrihanish. Three C130,s on manoeuvres with paras within each aircraft, viewed then bailing out and on return to base, rear door lowered to give us a great view of the two other aircraft behind us.
C130’s can reverse by feathering their props, on the ground of course!

Oh we saw that over here in Glossop too

I flew in them in Angola Terry. My first flight was up to the Mine Site where I had been told the area was peaceful. The aircraft arrived over the airstrip at a great height then proceeded to do a rapid, tight spiral descent, just pulling out very low to the ground and landing.

That is how I found out that I had been fed bullsh*t at my interview and UNITA were active in the area. :(

Yes I followed it down there then the interweb went down so no idea where it went but I suspect to RAF Coningsby, oddly it came from Leeds and Bradford airport.

There has been a lot of militery aircraft in and out of raf aldergrove, pos taking shorts Belfast missiles to poland for ukraine.

I heard it but couldn’t work out what or where it was but it was louder that the norm that fly over.

We get them flying through our very narrow valley at seemingly tree top height several times a year. It makes you stop and stare every time. We also get the fast jets too but you have to be looking in the right place at the right time to catch sight of them.

Jim, those original older version C130 were pretty versatile, they could land and take off on a tanner. Speaking of a tanner. Was UNITA not a well known cheap hooker trekking the streets of Newcastle and surrounding areas? 😂

I havent heard Belfast Airport called Aldergrove for a long time Trev. My Brother was involved when it was transferred from RAF to a Civil Airport. That was over 50 years ago. He lived in County Antrim somewhere for a few years.

There are some surprisingly old RAF planes up there today too.

We actually saw this aircraft at the BBMF hanger at RAF Coningsby it'd just come in for checking over.

Looks like some pilot training going on today.
