Priority changes

Let me know how you get on with the watering system. As you say it's ok asking people to water but anything over a few days and it can feel difficult. I'm paying a teenager when away for a couple of weeks.
We use auto watering systems made by Gardena, not that expensive, well made and reliable, I use one of an outdoor tap and another in my greenhouse that pumps water out of a water butt.

You could have neglected the grass and gone away for the whole of May. You could have even felt virtuous about it.
Never mind there is always next year.😀
It's going to be noisy tomorrow then.

Retired almost 15 years ago. Rented house initially for a year, to do a round the world trip. Came back thought that was fun. Sod it carried on renting house out ever since. Between motorhoming, visiting our Florida house and backpacking elsewhere, we don’t have time to worry about gardening or having a house to maintain full time. Fingers crossed our health stays okay, we can carry on with our lifestyle 😎

We installed a Claber 35 pot dripper system yesterday. Thought we could do the next one from bits but it was cheaper to order another. That will be 2 automatic systems, one covering all the flowers and shrubs in pots, in the top garden and another covering all the tomatoes, peppers, squash, herbs etc. in pots and all the conservatory plants when they come outside. We should be OK to go away for a week at a time and a month or so when the weather cools a bit and the veg garden won't be so prolific. I don't feel you can ask a neighbour to look after the garden with a lot of pots and veg for a month every year. Fingers crossed it all works.

Please let me know how you get on. Want to go away more next year and as you say asking a watering favour for any length of time isn't on. I'm paying a friends child when I'm away this year.

I'm sure I read somewhere that Wales has banned it now

No, definitely not banned in Wales.

It was in one of those phone news alerts, probably the Sun.

It was on Wales on line.

I am afraid to say that my house and garden have always played second fiddle to going away camping since my husband died 21 years ago. In fact it didn't get a lot of attention before that as he hated gardening and we were both working full time and went away caravanning whenever we could get a weekend or week off at the same time.
A friend moved in to my Granny flat last year, she has completely renovated the flat and cleared the garden so there's enough space for my dogs to run round in it now, they couldn't get far past the back door 18 months ago due to 3 feet high nettles and dock growing through the tarmac. She has even got a swimming pool set up.

Think I need a lodger like that!

We have neighbours with artificial grass, it looked brilliant in year one.....
Then along came autumn and much raking pressure washing and hoovering of leaves did not prevent it mulching and composting.
As the time progressed weeds began to root in the compost.

It now gets a regularly dose of weed killer, and they pull all the hold down pegs out each spring turn it upside down on their drive and blast the living daylights out of it with a bigger pressure washer.

It's probably still easier to maintain than real grass but not by much.
