Despicable motorhome dealer

We had huge problems with Chelstons with our last MH. It was sold as damp free but then within a year was riddled with damp which they 'repaired' under their own warranty. After their warranty had run out and when it was in for a subsequent hab check at a better dealer, they found huge problems with damp again - including areas that Chelston had 'sorted'.

I can't fault Edwards Motors near Worcester who were superb. They fixed all the problems which never returned. They also showed my where the earlier bodged repairs had been done by simply smothering areas with mastic!!

I've always found Edwards to be excellent when I've had occasion to use them.

I sold my Burstner to them at the end of last year.Got a great price and easy transaction.They are basically car dealers and certainly not motorhome specialists.I personally wouldn't buy from them.
I've had positive experiences with Premier and Southdowns

They do because as they age the seals around skylights, windows and other things deteriorate and need to be re-done. Even worse, because you don't get the telltale spongy walls etc, you don't pick up on it as quickly and more damage can ensue due to the water sloshing about and rusting the shell from the inside.

I realise this is resurrecting an old thread but we are now just looking for our next ‘new’ mh. We visited Lowdhams a couple of days ago and couldn’t believe the attitude of the salesman who basically couldn’t be arsed. Brown hills and Camper UK are closer to us anyway so have been to both as well, we found the saleswoman at Brownhills very helpful and friendly. The two salespeople at Camper UK also went out of their way to help us. We couldn’t believe the prices of new vans these days, and 2 year old models being priced at 20k more than they were sold for new. For a 100k investment I’d expect to be wined and dined first.

Brownhills have always been very helpful and understanding up to the expiry of the three year warranty, and then after, I think they expect you to tade in for another new model.
Full marks go to Briwnhills but servicing is expensive.

And it's not very long ago that Brownhills had the very worst reputation, so I'd beware at least.
 
SMC motorhomes at newarke seem very good i almost bought from them about 7 years ago but went with bundesvan instead , but a friend bought a brand new frankia from them lovely van but they had a small electrical fire under the fridge within a week it was on a low loader back to germany when it was returned immaculate they were also given free hab & mechanical services , like having a meal in a restaurant good service is sorting out problems not denying & finger pointing, joy zigzag has had good back up from todds renewing items a year after sale of a 10 yr old van a few months after she had it charlie at autogas wrote a report on the state of the underslung gas tank and they paid full renewal costs also had problems with the fridge & that was replaced don’t think they made much profit on that van unless they had good warranty ins
 
There used to be a very funny spoof Brownhills site that took the mickey out of them something rotten. Is it still going? :ROFLMAO:
 
Not seen that, but they were really crap dealing with customers and sorting problems, and I've not seen any good reviews since.

As for nice sales people, I ignore all they say and use my own eyes and form my own opinions, sales people want to sell and while they "may" not lie per se, they can avoid the truth like no other, when Liz and I go to look at a car or a new van I always remind her we have enough friends already, we're there on business, I'm polite but I have had to ask ride along salesmen to be quiet on test drives, I do not need distractions.

The Nottingham (near Lowdham) branch. We are seriously considering a Burstner Lyseo TD 644G from Camper UK, but unsure wether to wait for the NEC and join the waiting lists. Tom
 
I envy that you have a choice of new vans, but even if I could afford one I'd still buy used, there is a greater of the nearly new vans (some the same models as new ones) that have hardly been slept in and very low miles, a lot will have had some good extras fitted, so can be a very sensible buy, a great saving on cost too, with no waiting list, and of course, you don't have to take the awful VAT hit. You don't get that new van feeling with used, but in reality how much is that really worth?
 
I don't trust many people and none in the motor trade at any level.
