Never thought it was a thing and isn't for most.

 
I just watched the video again I wish I'd had him around when I was wanting to learn TIG, the man is THE master.
 
TIG welded loads of copper plate and pipe. With copper being a good conductor of heat, lots of preheat required.

Copper fume is highly toxic, good air fed helmets a must, as is local fume extraction.

Copper is not difficult to weld.
 
Could you weld the stuff he was doing though?
 
1 inch wall 12 inch copper tubing, yeah of course you can :D :D

What happened to the section on welding the 300x25mm copper pipe, I have more time to pick holes on what is is/was usual yank youtube crap?
 
Anyhooooooo, what a load o pish, you won't purchase a manual tip plant capable of throwing out 800amp. The welder would not be able to hold the tig torch trowing out 800amp, a water cooled torch would be returning steam.

Mixed shielding gas of Argon/Helium, the helium being the hotter gas which helps speed up productivity and produces better penetration in to parent material.

1"/ 25mm thick material will require a weld prep. Prior to tacking, jigs required, also a preheat, either flame, of heating bands.

How would the welder know weld has been reached? Either using pyrometers each side of joint to be welded, or using the correct Tempil sticks.

Overall, there will be a weld procedure sheet outlining the weld parameters. This is the usual yank crap, only five in the US can weld copper...........lol. And a handful more outwith US. Youtube can be a very handy resource for numerous subject areas, YT can also be a good resource for humorous content, with the copper clip being one of them!! 😄

It these pish YT clips that welding copper is a dark art. I have also welded gold, that is another story, though !

Many a one over the years for folks, all stopped now except maybe my own stuff.

Jim, during your time and that of swaging, this was the only option, then came along Nikolay Gavrilovich Slavyanov, the father of welding.

Runnachs welding is the bogs dollocks im told, but my kids got the bicys of the table no bother, turn the amps up Terry for a deeper strong weld. 😂
