Transform Windows 10 or 11 into Windows 7 or Vista with a single command, get rid of Linux Trev.

Gulp…why!
The comments were more entertaining😉

I will stick with Mint

If I get really bored for nostalgia I would rather play with a PDP11 running DSM (Digital Standard Mumps) Or the best OS of its time Datapoints RMS,

Each to their own with puters and the OS, it's better that we have such diversity of choice then the likes of MS don't rule the world and we no longer have a choice.

I looked at the link and it was interesting.

One reason "Why!" could be if you had an old program or game that was designed for Windows 7 and will not run on the latest versions of Windows. This could be a way to use them when the "compatability mode" does not do the job.

I would give one major word of caution though ... do not do this on a computer that has ANY data that you want access to or ANY program you must be able to use. There is a significant risk that you will not be able to use the computer anymore if something goes wrong. I think there was a warning within the process and with this kind of thing, that warning needs to be taken seriously, not just skipped over.

Could you not dual boot to get around that?

you could probably, but I am talking specifically about someone following the process in that link and reasons why they might want to.

The is one series of games - Command and Conquer - which was very popular back in the day and I have a feeling later versions of Windows 'broke' this and it never ran very well post Windows 7? (I may be wrong on the version, but it was around that version).
And you also had the MS Flight Simulator series which I think had similar issues with the later releases of Windows.
(I just had a look at the Games I have kept on the off-chance of ever bothering to setup a machine to play them and they are all for Windows 95. I have this vague recollection that MS did something post Win 7 that really messed the old stuff up? not been 'into' computers since around 2012 and now they are just a tool to be used, not a hobby or interest (or even profession!) like they used to be.)

I could imagine either of those games could be a good enough reason for someone to convert back to Windows 7? Especially Flight Simulator. Some fans spent an absolute fortune on dedicated FS rigs to play that.

Not really a gamer, Tetris, solitaire etc, but two games I used to play a lot was in the 90s After dark and another called Doom, then I tink an update ruined them too.

I never liked Doom - if it is the game I think it is? something to do with Wolfenstein 3D?
I first saw Wolf 3D in the basement of a BP office. made me feel seasick after about 5 minutes with the effects. Used to provide support to BP and they had a couple of guys whose job it was to fly around the world to oil tankers to support the computers on board ship - and one of their official roles was to test and install computer games! It is a very boring life on board an Oil Tanker off-duty and so that was actually an important diversion for the sailors.

Never much of a gamer either apart from Command & Conquer and Age of Empires.
I did enjoy Lemmings in the early 90's (you can play that on-line) and what was fun I thought (as a Model Maker) was Airfix Dogfighter (available here - https://www.myabandonware.com/game/airfix-dogfighter-cjz - but I could never get it running on the latest Windows versions)

Doom was wandering around castles etc with a huge machine gun.

I just had a go with Airfix Dogfighter and it worked ok! last time I triedit wouldn't work. maybe before upgrade to Win 10?

I needed Windows 7 to run Volvo Vida to diagnose problems with my car, I tried compatibility mode but it didn't work so I decided to dual boot Windows 10/Windows 7, the hardest part was finding a copy of Windows 7 to download, I purchased genuine keys for £7.99 from CJS-CDKeys, created a new 60GB partition and installed it on that.
I carry this laptop in the car now after breaking down on a smart motorway section of the M1 and the AA said there weren't any diagnostic fault codes, I found about 17 when I arrived home

Some on my distro repository, also wine which lets you use any windows games.lite a.jpgsoftware c.jpg

Reason I said “why” is because from the comments this appears to be a script so is not a roll back to native W7 but seemingly a skin with a huge amount of other iffy looking changes.

It would be far safer to run W7 either under Vmplayer or Virtual box
My copy of the Iveco EPC won’t work under any browser other than IE so it’s runs on W7 as a VM

Or use Wine to run some windows apps under Linux.

As an aside Elite and CC are the only computer games I have ever played extensively but I probably haven’t touched a computer game in the last 10 years,

Elite on the BBC micro was just fantastic!
