UK Online Safety Act - please read!

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the UK Online Safety Act exists, and as the administrator, I am required to ensure compliance with it starting from March.

The act includes provisions against posts that constitute "hate offences such as the stirring up of racial hatred and the stirring up of hatred on the basis of religion or sexual orientation." It is designed to make online platforms safer by holding them accountable for harmful content shared by their users. This includes addressing illegal content, protecting children from harmful material, and ensuring that platforms have robust processes in place to prevent and respond to abuse.

The key responsibilities under this act include:

  • Monitoring and moderating content to remove illegal and harmful material.
  • Protecting users from abuse and hate speech.
  • Implementing systems to verify user identities where necessary.
  • Ensuring transparency by publishing reports on safety measures.
I am actively working on preparing the forums to align with these legal requirements. To protect both the community and myself from potential massive fines, I will take necessary actions against any users who violate these rules. This includes removing the ability to post for those who post offensive or hateful content.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to maintain a respectful and compliant community.

This Act will kill off online interaction as it will kill off free speech. Free speech is not perfect but it is better than '1984' style mind control. Ironically on the other forum there is a thread entitled 'Room 101'. I would like to see this Act go in there.

Better remove the laughing emojis then.

SBMCC had the no fun rules 20 years ago will this kill the banter on forums, I can take and give mock offence,

So free speech is being abusive to others? What a nice person you are!

Of course it can be abusive to others, you just proved it above.
Show me where I was abusive? I just stated my take on his post. And why will this new law and the rules on this site kill off free speech? It will kill off nasty attacks on people, but if that is what free speech means you or anyone, it is a pretty sad state of affairs!

It's a fine line, but if you cannot see the abuse in this then maybe...

"So free speech is being abusive to others? What a nice person you are!"

Sarcasm can be a form of abuse.

I suppose that under current forum rules I could report your post to Admin .... but I will not because I am an adult not a simpering little child. Beware of what you wish for. :giggle:

Good luck Phil trying to negotiate legislation

I think it is all relative to the purpose of the forum. This (and WC) are privately owned, so in the first instance the owner can decide what is suitable for discussion and what is not. The purpose of the forum is for interchange of views and information on motorhoming. This to my mind means virtually all posts should relate to that subject or lighthearted humour and banter.
Of course, our hobby is impinged by political decisions affecting our ability to enjoy the use of our vans and the countryside and it is fair to express an opinion on these provided they do not hold a viewpoint that is offensive or politically biased. I see no need to express comment on National or international politics not really relevant to motorhoming.
I visit several Motorhome forums each day, but sadly the one I first joined seems to be now days be riddled with political posts that are nothing to do with our hobby, so the only interaction I have on it is to read the humorous or quirky posts. There are plenty of other outlets for those who wish to develop political arguments or perhaps join motorhomefacts which probably many of us have, thereby having an outlet for such views, thus protecting the owner and viability of this forum.

Too many lunatics on Facts these days, many seem to think that are better than others and it's more cliquey on there than ever it was when I spent a lot of time on there, I get the odd email link to threads on there, but I ignore most of them.

I have just logged on to facts and as soon as I saw the names of last months top posters I logged straight out again. :giggle:

It is quite a few years since I left that forum and it seems nothing has changed. The same small clique seem to be still dominant over there. :(

When it still kept falling over it was a pain but there were some really good and helpful members on there but they have mostly gone.

I don’t envisage this new legislation ever being an issue with forums like this however where it’s really needed such as the anti social cess pits known as Facebook or X etc, I highly doubt it will have any effect at all.

What a nice person you are!

Say that to the wrong person and you could find yourself in a heap of bother.

I just stated my take on his post.

You insulted him.

It's all going a bit far in my opinion but we'll see.

It's going to be a nightmare and who decides what is hate?

Am I allowed to hate Hamas? They are described by the government as terrorists after all.

If so, by extension, am I allowed to hate the people that voted for them?

Am I allowed to hate Russia? And the Russians that are invading Ukraine? And the ordinary Russians at home supporting the war?

I wouldn't want an admin job when this is in.
