We also have our JR who can make a din if and when required. Not once though, have we had any issues overnighting on motorway Aires, in fact, some of them are really good and well laid out.

the italian aire equivalent are sostas it’s a few years since i was there but most of the big city ones are like park & rides with services you can overnight and catch a bus multiple times to visit the cities , i think ive still got a guide book & road atlas somewheres i could bring up to barlick for you or give to mick
That would be great thank you, if you could pass it on to Mick, then I'll fetch it back to Goosnargh, cheers

Is it this one

Thanks for this, I've found one for Switzerland too, is there one for Italy?

It's the crit air for France only a few quid,

Is it this link or the other ha?

OP: Make sure to buy from the official government sources and not 3rd party sites. The government sources are the cheapest and in my experience very efficient.

Italy has motorway tolls. I am not aware of the requirement for any paid vignette but am happy to be corrected.

As has been mentioned earlier. If you get a motorway tag it makes travelling in France and Italy easier. I have a Bip and Go tag which also does Spain and Portugal as well as France and Italy. Whilst you can most;y avoid motorways in France if you have the time and inclination, in Italy it makes more sense to use them if you want to make progress. They aren't too expensive either.

I have the Ulys motorway tag . Being , mostly , a solo traveller wouldn't be without it .

Hello

Go easy on me 🤣

We're planning on a trip to Italy mid July this year, with a stop over in France and a couple in Switzerland.

I've never been out of the UK in the motorhome, except Ireland if that counts and was wondering if any of you had any advice or tips?

Anything i need to do to prepare the bus, Anything to avoid or be wary of, there's probably tons of stuff, but a few basic pointers would be great.

Can you wild camp or is it advisable to use sites/aires etc.

I've got my insurance sorted and about to sort some breakdown cover.

Thanks in advance 😎👍

Looks a fair place, are the waterfalls and pools natural? Was it just by the Aires you stopped at?
Yes the whole place is natural and free to use the Camping is about a mile away and a minibus took you to the spa for a few pennies but we walked along the hot river that feeds the spa across fiel

Have a look at my thread here https://motorhomer.com/threads/don’t-panic.48910/

Main point of my post to you is, to be aware, a rare experience, we were in the right place, but the low lives can be all around us at any time, usually they creep out after dark.

Check your door security, what can you do to beef it up, just in case? Leave hab door light on overnight.

For the record, during our return to the tunnel last week, we stopped overnight on a motorway aire, with no issues.

Enjoy your trip.

Re Switzerland. We stayed at a site (in Lucerne I think) that had a unique flat 3 pin plug/socket arrangement but the site loaned out adaptors.

Tbh, I’ve not read all of this thread. Intermittent wifi.

I’m interested to know about Italian Aires.
In France , as also in the European countries I’ve already travelled, I’ve always found free overnight parking.
Would I find similar free Aries in Italy ?
