The Italian Job 2025

When we left Annecy we took the lower route to the 13 kilometre long Tunnel de Frejus. My Bro in law recommended this route as it is more scenic than Mont Blanc route, and the scenery is stunning. Cost for our seven metre camper to go through tunnel, £62/€74 one way. Seems expensive, but using non tunnel route would cost more in fuel and time. Later on Monday afternoon we reached my sister and bro in law house above Aqui Terme. But the single track road going down to them was interesting, no passing places, switchback bends, with ditches both sides of road!

I forgot to mention, as you traverse through the tunnel, you pass a sign telling you, you have entered Italy, as you exit the tunnel you are met with a THUMP, as you are now travelling on road surfaces similar to WW1 Somme Battle Field. As many forum members have commented in the past, roads surfaces are hellish.

I’m getting into the way of Italian life, been helping bro in law removing wire that supports the vine in their vine yard, I shudder to think how many metres of wire we have removed and coiled by hand, hot 🥵 work, I can feel the hairs growing out my face!!

Best part is settling down down to a bottle of wine when done, and we are getting through the home grown stuff fairly swiftly 😂

Sitting out on the balcony tonight, full moon shrouded within a heat haze and, we are being entertained viewing the multitude of fire flys zooming around the garden….amazing!!!

Heading to the coast tomorrow.
