If we feel unsafe we leave a dog bowl of water and a pretty hefty dog lead outside the van, even though we don’t have a dog!

WOW, your experience was certainly a fearful one, and as you state, confrontation does not bear thinking about. I reckon doors are the easier option, quieter to step in, than climb in through a window, you correct thought, if they want in, they will, unless disturbed.

I recall a post from way back where a MH door was bent back to gain access, if this was your MH, that was awful. Hopefully no more bad experiences for you.

Yes that was ours. Just do pointless having the van written off for not much more than a few pennies that they gained

No, no gas. The dogs are only 2kg so enough gas to put us out would truly have killed the dogs

The stories about gas are ALL rubbish.
It isn't possible to gas the occupants fast enough to put them asleep without huge risk of killing them.

I definitely agree with that. How would anyone be able to carry around a tank canister big enough. They would certainly have to have been pumping it in fast as the side window was open

Been motorhoming in France for over 40 years, plus all over Europe, also have had home in France for over 20 years, never had a problem. Wild camping, overnighting on aires, etc etc. Our simple rule, if it doesn't look or feel right, don't stay there. .

Certainly looked fine on arrival, what I will do in the future, is to look under any rocks for the low life’s who appear after dark.
