don’t know the circumstances but this camper ended up in the canal in france couple 50 and 38 died in the tragedy , no information on whether it was flooding or other problemsIMG_2410.png

Apologies. Translated version did not copy over in the link. The jist is, and reports to date are scant.

Authorities do not know how camping car ended up in the canal?

Very strange. It's a good stretch of straight road and the motorhome appears to be facing towards the road (and perpendicular to it). I often use that road in the course of my trips.

From reports, no skid/tyre marks on the road, authorities still baffled. My thoughts, maybe driver nodded off or a nano second. Or tyre blow out/mechanical failure? Certainly looks like the front end got pummeled by smashing into opposite canal bank steel canal wall supports.

Yes, the front-end damage looks horrific.
In their video, Sud-Ouest have got the location wrong by almost 1km on the satellite view, putting their red dot at the location of the memorial to the FFI (on a slight bend) rather than the bridge over the canal (straight section). It does indeed look as though the front end collided with the piling, which close to the bridge is no longer vertical, as it was in September 2025, so the van was presumably heading northwest and passed between the bridge and the concrete power supply pole on the canal bank.

Certainly must have hit the steel with some force, hence the perpendicular position of the camper in the water.

France Bleu, or "ici" as it now wishes to be known, has a bit more information, including the fact that the victims were local and that, contrary to the time of around 09h10 indicated by sources referenced above, the accident could have occurred during the night; it was reported to the emergency services at approx 09h10. Given that the vehicle is black, daylight comes approximately an hour later in France than the UK due to the time difference, and the potential for early morning mist/fog in that area, delay in discovery of the accident would not be surprising.
