Dams and rivers in Portugal ...

I shudder to think about conditions at the mouth of the Gardiana.. All that water coursing down..
It's not going to be pleasant for those who have to use the ferry to get home from work.
Still a wicked hooley in Sâo Brâs, but our north/ south road is like a river.

Stay safe and please be careful. Trotters International Travels ( TIT) haven’t left the UK yet.

Just looking at the TV news. The mountainous central regions have towns built in the valleys, where there is flatter land and the main roads can get through..
The dams in the hills are overflowing and the excess water can only go down hill.
Chaos rules.

It sounds horrific Paul, I assume you are safe.
Its made me think about our travels and we might change our plans.
Thanks for the updates and make sure you stay safe.

We’re hoping to start the Long Road South on March 22nd.
Realistically, would we be wise to postpone for a while or would things have recovered by then? Any thoughts.

Looking at the weather forecast for the Faro, Mertola areas, it looks like there should be an improvement around Tuesday next week.
As weather forecasting is only one step away from witchcraft, we can only 🤞.

Late March should almost be summertime. I’ll be three weeks ahead of you. So I’ll have everything crossed.

I think/hope things should be greatly improved by then....but it's all guesswork till nearer the date. We are still guessing for next week

In Silves, the Parque do Rio and the unofficial "overflow" parking outside it have now been cleared by emergency services twice in case of flooding. Storm Leonardo continues to make life difficult. Blowing a hooley at the coast with amber/ yellow warnings for wind, rain and waves. Reports say it's the wettest winter for 30 years.
Be careful what you wish for: this time last year they were expecting water supply in the Algarve to only last until June!

Perhaps it'll all disappear in time for a glorious spring!
I think that hope needs to be preceded by 'Once upon a time' and to involve a Prince who arrives to dig the Princess out of her mud-laden wellies and put on the fabled glass slippers (which will, of course, be immediately smeared with more mud ...) 😄

Nature does recover quickly, but the 2026 wild flower extravaganza may need to be postponed until 2027!
