Received my new engine battery today, got a good price from Alpha now the fun starts. This is the first time I have ever had to remove the drivers seat just to change a battery. What a performance, not the sort of thing you would like to do on the hard shoulder. How much would Ford dealers have charged me for doing it.

it's a fun job isn't it :)
Once you know where all the required nuts and bolts are it is not too bad but still a PITA.

AA Chap took less than ten minutes on my transit to get to the battery however he did use a cordless right angle wrench.
 
Yeah I'm about ten mins all torx bolts no nuts
Mind the air bag wire that's attached!
I've never some across an airbag wire when removing cab seats - where is it?
Fairly quick operation removing all the bolts; it's heaving the seat about that's a PITA, particularly reinstalling, making sure it doesn't come into contact with terminals.

It will be a cable with a yellow connector and hanging down. Airbag-related cables always have yellow connectors.
It may not be an specific wire for an actual airbag but more likely a connection for a 'occupancy' sensor so the vehicle knows if there is anyone sitting in the passenger seat for example and so deploy a passenger airbag when there is one in a crash.
Also used for the seatbelt buzzer!

Don't recall seeing anything like that when removing the seats for you a few years ago; the only obvious attachment that I recall was the seatbelt.

It will depend on the specs of the vehicle. some vans may have no seatbelt detector or passenger airbag. On the drivers side, there is the assumption that a driver is present in a crash so no need to check for airbag to have it go off.
I can't recall about the Transit, but I know I have had to deal with these leads on my VW Transporter with a passenger airbag and on a car with seat side airbags.

One thing I would definately do is make sure the ignition is off and stays off all the time the seats are out if they have underseat cables that need to be disconnected - prevents the potential of a warning light on the dash that cannot be cleared without dealer intervention.
 
Thank you for the heads-up. Will be extra careful tomorrow when I do it. There is one cable that runs over the top of the battery cover that has a clear snap connector.

At £120 hour plus battery vat and proberbly an ecu download for stop start just think of a number ,
 
It actually only took my son about 20 minutes to change it. I thought it would be harder than that.
